Assistant Activities Director

 

Purpose Statement

The Assistant Activities Director will collaborate with the Activities Director to create and implement a dynamic co-curricular activities program. This role involves planning and scheduling events, supervising athletic contests, and coordinating with activity leaders for grades 6-12. Additionally, the Assistant Activities Director will manage activity budgets and approve expenses in line with established policies. Working closely with the Activities Director, Athletic Administrative Assistant, and other administrative staff, this position will also provide support for office coverage as needed to ensure the smooth operation of the activities program

Salary Grade: Grade 15

Contract: 12-mo Administrative (279) Contract

Reports To: Activities Director

Wage/Hour Status:  Exempt

 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Education, Sports Management, or a related field; Masters Degree in education, recreation, or related field, preferred.
  • Licensure:  Iowa Professional Administrative license or Activities Administrator Authorization. 
  • Experience: Previous experience in student activities, athletics, or a related field is highly desirable; Five (5 ) plus years of previous experience in student activities, athletics, or a related field is highly desirable, preferred.
  • Certifications: CPR/First Aid certification; preferred.
  • Must possess [and maintain] a valid Class C Non-Commercial Driver's License.
  • Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable

 

Essential Functions

Program Development

  • Assist the Activities Director in establishing a vision for the co-curricular program, including athletic and non-athletic activities.

Event Planning & Coordination

  • Plan and schedule a diverse range of co-curricular activities, working closely with activity leaders to ensure successful execution.

Supervision

  • Oversee athletic contests and other events, ensuring compliance with school policies and promoting sportsmanship among participants.

Budget Management

  • Monitor activity budgets, approve expenditures, and ensure financial compliance with school policies.

Employee Relations

  • Hire, supervise, monitor, and evaluate activities staff with a focus on continuous improvement.

Collaboration

  • Work cooperatively with the Activities Director, Athletic Administrative Assistant, and other administrative staff to fulfill duties and responsibilities effectively.

Office Support

  • Assist with office coverage as needed, handling inquiries and providing support to students, staff, and parents.

Communication

  • Foster positive relationships with students, parents, and community members to promote participation in activities and events.

Compliance & Safety

  • Ensure that all activities meet safety standards and adhere to district policies and regulations.

 

 

Other Functions 

  • Collaborate with internal and external personnel (e.g. other administrators, district staff, public agencies, community members, etc.) for implementing and/or maintaining services and programs.
  • Facilitate meetings, workshops, professional development and training, etc. (e.g. regulatory requirements, community or outside agencies, interdepartmental needs, etc.) for identifying issues, developing recommendations, supporting other staff, and serving as a District representative.
  • Carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities may include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; evaluating employee performance, addressing complaints and resolving problems, and leading or assisting with student and/or staff investigations.
  • Participate in staff development training programs, faculty meetings, and special events as assigned.
  • Facilitate and oversee committee meetings as required.
  • Demonstrate initiative and the ability to work without close supervision.                
  • Demonstrate integrity and maintain confidentiality.
  • Work well with others, maintaining positive and effective communication with school personnel and work well with other custodians on jobs that require more than one person. 
  • Demonstrate respect and appropriate interactions with staff, students, and visitors.
  • Uphold and adhere to safety rules and policies of the Ankeny Community School District safety program. 
  • Support the goals and objectives of the school district and follow all district policies.
  • Demonstrate the ability to attend work on a regular and routine basis to avoid disruption to District operations.
  • Perform all duties in a safe manner to avoid injury to oneself and/or others. 
  • Respond to emergency situations for the purpose of resolving immediate safety concerns and/or directing appropriate personnel for resolution. 
  • Perform other related duties, as assigned, for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.

 

Working Environment 

Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors

The usual and customary methods of performing the position functions require the following physical demands:  lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, climbing, reaching, driving, standing and walking. Working conditions may include extreme temperatures and humidity.  Hazards may include exposure to communicable diseases. This position requires one to maintain emotional control under stress.
