Since 1909 the A2AC has been sparking creativity in people of all ages and artistic abilities. The A2AC is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization. Our mission is to be a contemporary forum for the visual arts through education, exploration, collaboration, and exhibition.
Overview: Assistant Art Camp Director
The Ann Arbor Art Center is currently seeking an Assistant Art Camp Director for our in-person Spring and Summer Art Day Camps.
The A2AC has Art Camp programming for both youth and teens. Creativity Camp serves children ages 5-12 years old. Each day, campers work on 2-D and 3-D art projects using a variety of mediums and techniques. Clay Camp serves children ages 9-12. Clay campers throw on the pottery wheel each morning and learn handbuilding techniques in the afternoon. Teen Camp serves children ages 13-17. Our Teen Camp program features weekly focuses on a variety of art disciplines, media, or processes, allowing beginner and aspiring teen artist’s to explore new techniques and expand their creative practice.
Candidates available for both Spring Camp and the full Summer Camp season are strongly preferred. However, applicants who can commit to the entire Summer Camp season, even if unavailable for Spring Camp, are still encouraged to apply and will be considered.
Duration:
- Spring Camp: March 17 - March 28
- Summer Camp: June 2 - August 22
The Assistant Camp Director must attend:
- A minimum of 60 hours of paid pre-camp training
- All camp staff training sessions
The Assistant Art Camp Director will work closely with the Art Camp Director to ensure a safe, organized, and engaging camp experience.
Responsibilities include:
- Complete administrative tasks: prepare paperwork for upcoming camp weeks, collect and review medical forms
- Communicate important information to camp staff
- Assist leading field trips and facilitate guest artists’ visits
- Assist with camper drop-off and pick-up
- Supervise camper lunch times, snack time, outdoor play, and field trips, as needed, and by request of the Camp Director
- Step in to support camp groups, including substituting for camp staff if necessary, and by request of the Camp Director
- Track, inventory, and order supplies; submit purchase orders
- Take photos of camp when time allows
- Assist with parent communication as needed
- Perform closing duties and assist with setting up the studios for evening classes
- Duties may include walking up and down stairs, standing, bending or leaning over, lifting up to 50 pounds, and working on one’s feet most of the day
- Includes other duties related to day camp operations, as needed
Preferred Qualifications & Skills
- Background in education, art, or a related field (or equivalent experience)
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word & Excel (or Google Docs & Sheets)
- Prior experience working with youth
- Exceptional attendance and punctuality
- Adaptable, willingness to step into various roles as needed
- Organized and meticulous attention to detail
- Positive, professional attitude and strong work ethic
- Team-oriented
- Must be 18 years or older to apply
