Position Summary
Under the supervision of the Maintenance Lead, the Maintenance Worker ensures that facilities are kept clean and in good repair.
This position includes working evening and/or weekend hours.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following; other duties as assigned:
- Completes work order requests and other assignments in a safe and timely manner.
- Assists with minor plumbing, electrical repairs, carpentry and painting.
- Sets up and removes equipment for rental rooms.
- Performs daily trash picks of grounds and parking lots.
- Performs custodial duties as needed.
- Delivers library material between locations on a daily basis.
- Responsible for operating and maintaining maintenance equipment.
- Will work irregular hours as necessary in order to ensure library facilities and grounds are clean and safe during all hours of operation.
- Assists with the training and orientation for newly hired maintenance staff.
- Required to be on site for all work
- Maintain a prompt and reliable attendance record.
Minimum Qualifications include:
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or six or more months of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. (Applicant must be 18 or older unless high school diploma or GED has been obtained.)
- Ability to read, write and interpret documents such as safety rules, Library policies and procedures, biohazard handling procedures and the Library’s emergency manual and OSHA/MIOSHA Safety Plan.
- Ability to communicate effectively with internal and external customers.
- Demonstrate ability to type using a PC.
- Possess or obtain a chauffeur’s license.
- Ability to exercise discretion, make reasonable and sound judgments, and maintain confidentiality.
- Physical strength and ability to perform routine or heavy manual tasks, including the ability to lift and/or move over 50 pounds without assistance.
- Ability to stoop, bend, climb and reach.
