    Pre-Program Professional Development - TBD
    High priority given to teachers who commit to all 4 sessions
    Session One: July 5* - July 8
    Session Two: July 11 - July 15
    Session Three: July 18 - July 22
    Session Four: July 25 - July 29
    • note that this is a 4 day week, due to 4th of July Holiday

    Qualifications

    Education and Experience
    • Possess a valid Michigan Elementary Teaching Certificate
      Be recognized as a collaborative instructional team member at home school Have experience teaching the district Everyday Mathematics curriculum at the primary level Have knowledge of and experience with the Michigan Literacy Essentials. Have knowledge of and experience with Responsive Classroom.
    • Proof of COVID vaccination required
    Have demonstrated proficiency with instructional techniques such as:
    • using ongoing assessment information to differentiate instruction
    • skillful implementation of the Balanced Literacy Framework (reading and writing workshop); including planning and executing mini lessons, guided reading/writing lessons, strategy groups, conferences, independent reading/writing; and providing quality phonics instruction to ELs and struggling readers and writers
    • establishing a high level of student engagement and interaction that also takes into consideration the English language proficiency level of ELs, and builds on students' prior knowledge
    • use of active learning, manipulatives and visual displays to scaffold students' understanding of concepts and numerical relationships, e.g SIOP
    • focusing on problem solving, mathematical reasoning, justifying ideas and answers, making sense of mathematical situations
    • strategic use of classroom discourse through which students construct meaning and understanding
    • delivering instruction virtually through Zoom and Schoology platform

    Have demonstrated:
    • skillfulness collecting and analyzing district data for purposes of program monitoring
    • success working with underachieving students and closing the achievement gap(s)
    • success managing and building relationships with diverse groups of students
    • an openness to expand on and apply targeted instructional moves which demonstrate effective teaching practices in both math and ELA
    • consistent use of professional language which supports students in developing self-control, building a sense of community, and gaining academic skills and knowledge.

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities
    • communicate with students' families
    • provide engaging remote instruction through use of Schoology and Zoom
    • implement the summer school program as designed, with fidelity
    • teach small group and individuals reading and mathematics targeted to children’s observed and assessed needs
    • collaborate with other summer school practitioners to reflect on student learning and adjust instructional plans to meet student needs
    • participate in pre-summer school professional development (either with release time or compensation at the summer school hourly rate)
    • regular and reliable attendance
    • other related duties as assigned

    Language Skills
    • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
    • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
    • Ability to speak effectively before groups of people.

    Mathematical Skills
    • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
    • Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
    Reasoning Ability
    • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
    • Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

    Other Skills & Abilities
    • Work with parents and children of diverse cultural backgrounds
    • Develop effective working relationships with students, staff, and the school community
    • Perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education policies

    Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand and talk or hear and sometimes walk and sit. Occasionally the employee will bend or twist at the neck more than the average person.

    While performing the duties of this job, the employee may occasionally push or lift up to 50 lbs such as boxes of books and AV/VCR carts. The employee is directly responsible for safety, well being, or work output of other people. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision such as to read handwritten or typed material, and the ability to adjust focus. The position requires the individual to meet multiple demands from several people and interact with the public and other staff.
