SafeHouse Center is seeking an experienced nonprofit fund development professional with a solid systems-orientated approach and strong interpersonal skills who will build on our current fundraising plan and lead a multi-year fundraising strategy to generate and expand revenue.
SafeHouse Center is a long-term community-based service provider in Washtenaw County supporting survivors of sexual assault, intimate partner violence, dating violence and stalking and their children. Our primary focus is to provide advocacy, emotional and informational support, shelter and resources to survivors facing crisis because of intimate partner and sexual violence.

Job Summary
SafeHouse Center is a 501(c)3 nonprofit operated through funding from multiple government and public sources, contributions, and individual, corporate and foundation giving. Together, these sources support on-going operations, our essential and impactful direct service programs, and our education/awareness community programs.
Working as part of the Executive Leadership team, in collaboration with the Executive Director, and supported by a Development Associate, the Development Director’s primary responsibility is to strengthen the financial future of SafeHouse by strategically building the scale and stability of community-based funding.

Key Responsibilities For Development Strategy, Planning, And Management
- Develop and manage an overall strategy and plan to promote stability and encourage increased giving amongst existing donor groups
- Develop and manage an overall strategy and plan to identify and secure new individual, corporate, and foundation donors with the objective to grow annual contributions and meaningfully expand the donor base
- Develop and manage a strategy for the identification, qualification, and evaluation of major, principal, and planned gift prospects Lead the development team to plan and execute events that increase community awareness and grow financial contributions
- Organize and manage direct mail, email, and social media campaigns
- Identify and develop grant proposal opportunities to secure funding from corporations, private foundations and some government entities
- Manage and promote in-kind giving programs to obtain needed products and services
- Oversee development operations, create, implement, and monitor internal gift policies and protocols through the full donor cultivation cycle
- Oversee and manage external relations, including marketing and communications, the development of collateral materials, promotional tools, media relations, and advertising
- Baccalaureate degree
- Five or more years of progressively responsible development experience at a senior fundraising level in a non-profit setting with a proven track record in building individual, corporate, foundation, capital, and endowment programs
- Demonstrated success in cultivating and securing six-figure gifts
- Experience working in a multifaceted environment
- Ability to exercise a high degree of judgment and diplomacy as well as maintaining the highest integrity and ethics
- Strong interpersonal skills and comfort with philanthropic community and major donors
- Solid, persuasive verbal and written communications skills, including the ability to deliver inspiring and succinct presentations and conduct productive meetings
- Demonstrated ability to work independently, as well as a proven record of working collaboratively with others
- Demonstrated ability to build a diverse team and effectively manage, motivate, and mentor staff
- Demonstrated ability to think strategically
- Strong business acumen, decision making skills, ability to set priorities, and project management skills
- Valid driver's license and vehicle
