Job Description
The Assoc Dir Research Support Office provides administrative leadership, strategic planning and operational management for the Research Grants Specialist, Research Financial Portfolio Manager, and Research Administrative Manager teams and the stakeholders at-large while managing the award life-cycle support processes. This position supports the Director by disseminating job critical information and resources, developing, and implementing training programs, proposing process improvements to enhance efficiencies, and promoting collaboration with cross-functional teams. This position will have responsibility and oversight over budgets, reporting, human resources processes, and general administrative support.
Essential Job Functions :
- Advises the Director on staffing needs for the Research Grants Specialist, Research Financial Portfolio Manager and Research Administrative Manager teams.
- Responsible for coordination of onboarding, training, and evaluating team members.
- Manages the daily operations of the Manager, Proposal Services team and Manager, Clinical Science Post Award Support.
- In coordination with managers, plans the professional development needs for the Research Grants Specialist (RGS), Research Financial Portfolio Manager (RFPM) and Research Administrative Manager (RAM) teams.
- Responsible for managing team metrics and distributions of workloads, in conjunction with Director, RSO across the Research Grants Specialist (RGS), Research Financial Portfolio Manager (RFPM) and Research Administrative Manager (RAM) teams, and for ensuring adequate support is in place during high volume deliverable deadlines.
- Manages the development of onboarding materials and other forms of training documentation as needed to address knowledge gaps and encourage employee growth and development.
- Reviews organizational training needs for a variety of constituents (Faculty, Staff, other RA Teams), develops and conducts training as identified.
- Shares knowledge and expertise on matters pertaining to the Award Lifecycle operations at Lurie Children’s.
- Collaborates with the Office of Sponsored Programs, Sponsored Research Finance Office, Research Business Operations, Finance, ORIC, OCCT, and clinical operations staff in research processes related to RSO’s role in operational and financial concerns.
- Develops efficient processes for award lifecycle operations across partner teams and between grants team members and PIs.
- Prepares and disseminates reports, including but not limited to metric reports as requested by Director RSO, Manne Research Institute leadership, and faculty.
- Ability to hire, fire, and complete performance evaluations.
- Other job functions as assigned.
