Job Description
- Operates boilers, HVAC, medical gas, fire alarm, sprinkler, and plumbing systems safely and efficiently.
- Assists managers as directed to schedule the testing of the boiler, HVAC, and medical gas systems, and all associated equipment. Partner with manager to document and file regulatory documentation in applicable locations (White Books, etc.). Responsible to follow up and schedule repairs of any deficiencies identified during the testing.
- Assists preventive and corrective maintenance on the hospital’s boilers, HVAC, medical gas, life safety systems, and other machinery.
- Troubleshoots mechanical problems without assistance.
- Investigates steam, heating, cooling, system shutdowns, initiates shutdowns and reactivations. Oversees the installation of mechanical systems and equipment by outside contractors and records deficiencies on punch list. Participates in system start-up and commissioning.
- Utilizes and maintains tools and instruments associated with the engineering trade.
- Provides scope recommendations for boiler, HVAC system repair, improvement, or upgrade projects.
- Teaches and mentors above activities to stationary and maintenance engineering staff.
- Current City of Chicago stationary engineer license is required.
- Experience in mechanical construction is preferred.
- Administers the Energy Efficiency Program for the medical center with the Operations Manager, including :
- Identifying, analyzing and implementing energy conservation methods and procedures to reduce campus energy and maintenance costs of mechanical and electrical systems.
- Identifying, planning and implementing energy reduction strategies and initiatives working with internal and external resources.
- Interpreting metering data on mechanical / electrical systems and making recommendations for energy reduction programs to leadership.
- Developing and implementing energy conservation projects. Directing and supervising projects that address the operations and maintenance of the campus utility systems.

40.00-$66.00 Hourly
