General Summary:
The Manager, Clinical Quality and Safety is responsible for ensuring the highest standards of patient care, quality, and safety across Lurie Children’s. The manager will lead the Clinical Quality Coordinators focused on driving clinical excellence, risk reduction, and continuous improvement initiatives. The Manager Clinical Quality and Safety will collaborate closely with nursing leadership, medical staff, and interprofessional teams to establish and uphold evidence-based practices, enhance patient safety, and align hospital operations to exceed quality and safety standards. The Manager will foster a culture of accountability, transparency, and proactive patient safety, directly impacting patient outcomes and the overall quality of care delivered. This position requires a strategic, results-driven approach to quality management, a deep understanding of clinical care delivery, and a commitment to creating an environment where patient safety and continuous improvement are prioritized across the organization.

Essential Job Functions:
- Leadership & Supervision: Lead, mentor, and supervise the Clinical Quality Coordinators. Provide guidance on performance, development, and training. Lead quality and safety initiatives at the meso and macro system level.
- Quality & Safety Oversight: Oversee the development, implementation, and monitoring of hospital-wide quality and safety initiatives within the nursing and allied health teams, ensuring adherence to regulatory standards, and evidence-based practices.
- Data Collection & Analysis: Collect, analyze, and interpret quality and safety data to identify trends, gaps, and opportunities for improvement. Present findings to leadership and staff to drive decision-making and enhance patient care outcomes.
- Performance Improvement: Lead continuous quality improvement (CQI) initiatives aimed at reducing adverse events, improving clinical outcomes, and optimizing patient safety. Utilize Lean, Six Sigma, or other improvement methodologies as appropriate.
- Patient Safety Culture: Foster a culture of safety across the hospital by promoting transparency, reporting, and learning from incidents, near misses, and sentinel events. Work closely with departments to implement root cause analyses and corrective actions.
- Collaboration: Work collaboratively with other nursing leaders, medical staff, and multidisciplinary teams to align quality and safety initiatives with hospital goals. Serve as a resource for staff and leaders on clinical quality and patient safety matters.
- Education & Training: Provide education, training, and professional development opportunities to nursing and allied health team members on quality and safety standards, policies, and best practices. Promote ongoing learning about new developments in the field.
- Policy & Procedure Development: Assist in the development and review of hospital policies and procedures related to clinical quality and safety. Ensure that these are evidence-based and aligned with industry standards.
- Communication: Strong verbal and written communication skills, with ability to influence and lead through change. Ability to develop and maintain relationships across many teams and negotiate needed changes that impact quality and safety. Communicates efficiently and effectively with nursing senior leadership team in order to meet the needs of patients and nursing and allied health team members.
- The authority to hire, separate, promote, demote, write and administer performance evaluations.

- Education
- Master’s degree required.
- Minimum of a baccalaureate in nursing required.
- Certification/Licensure/Registration
- Current Registered Nurse license in the state of Illinois required.
- ANCC approved specialty certification within one year of hire.
- Quality and/or safety certification preferred.
- Years of Relevant Experience
- Minimum of 5 years of nursing experience, with at least 2 years in a leadership role focused on quality, safety, or risk management.
- Strong knowledge of clinical quality improvement, patient safety practices, and regulatory requirements.
- Experience leading a team and working with interdisciplinary groups in a healthcare setting.
- Computer Skills
- Proficient in Microsoft Office suite
