Job Description
General Summary:
The Orthotic Resident position is a resident training position in the field of orthotics. During the course of the residency training, the resident must remain under the supervision and direction of a qualified American Board Certification-certified practitioner. The individual in this position is required to adhere to NCOPE resident policies and procedures. In this capacity, the orthotic resident is responsible for developing technical and clinical skills under the supervision of an ABC certified practitioner and with the intent of providing each patient with best practice methods. Specific responsibilities include but are not limited to: (1) technical implementation; (2) professional responsibility; (3) patient management; and (4) clinical assessment. Individuals in this position are expected to develop technical skills in cast modification, vacuum-forming, orthotic assembly, and technical troubleshooting. Clinical expectations include: patient evaluation; measurement, impression and alignment; proper fit and function of orthosis. The orthotic resident is expected to complete all required paperwork to maintain good standing as a NCOPE resident
Essential Job Functions:
  • Under the supervision of an ABC certified (American Board for Certification) orthotist, performs a comprehensive assessment of the patient to obtain an understanding of patient’s orthotic needs.
  • Under the supervision of an ABC certified orthotist, creates a comprehensive orthotic treatment plan to meet the needs and goals of the patient.
  • Under the supervision of an ABC certified orthotist, performs the necessary procedures to deliver the appropriate orthotic services, including fabrication.
  • Under the supervision of an ABC certified orthotist, provides continuing patient care periodic evaluation to assure/maintain/document optimal fit and function of the orthosis.
  • Under the supervision of an ABC certified orthotist, completes documentation and billing in a timely fashion using SOAP format.
  • Under the supervision of an ABC certified orthotist updates own knowledge base through attendance at in-services and continuing education courses. Secures written orders for all orthotic treatment. Adheres to safety issues.
  • Performs job functions adhering to service principles with customer service focus of innovation, service excellence and teamwork to provide the highest quality care and service to our patients, families, co-workers and others.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Successful graduation from a CAAHEP (Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education) accredited program.
  • BLS Certification required.

Pay Range
$18.00-$27.00 Hourly
