What are the responsibilities and job description for the Direct Support Professional (DSP) position at Annandale Village?
Position Description: Responsible for providing a supportive home-like environment for the Villagers residing in his/her residence. Provides skills training to promote independence including, but not limited to; maintaining a safe and clean room, laundry skills, personal hygiene, and interpersonal relationships with their housemates. Will participate in the necessary skills training for Villagers to meet their goals through the AFLS assessment process. This is an hourly position and requires a minimum of 8 hours per day to complete job expectations.
Minimum Qualifications: High School Diploma or GED and 1 year of work experience and/or training or equivalent combination of education and experience preferred. Must be able to read, write, and comprehend English language and pass literacy test. All Medication Administration requirements will be completed within the first 30 days.
Will be CPR/First Aid certified within the first 60 days of employment. Will have basic knowledge of computer programs (Microsoft Office & Outlook). Must be at least 21 years of age, have a valid Class C Georgia Driver’s License, proof of vehicle insurance, and meet company policy regarding MVR requirements. Must meet state requirements regarding GBI and FBI criminal history record check. Be willing to, undergo fingerprinting, and pass drug screening for illicit drugs, as well as Tuberculosis (TB) screening.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Assists the Medication Coordinator as needed to include health maintenance activities.
- Is knowledgeable on the Medication Error/Progressive Disciplinary process, related to medication errors.
- Transport or accompany villagers to ER/Urgent Care as needed.
- Completes bi-weekly hygiene checklists to ensure proper hygiene with all ADL needs.
- Maintains and adheres to the laundry and room cleaning schedule for each villager, and provides assistance/training to those who are unable to complete this task on their own.
- Ensures villagers are appropriately dressed for the weather, before leaving the residence.
- Trains and assists Villagers on appropriate social skills, problem solving, etc.
- Completes and documents for each villager all care tracking tasks in Electronic Medical Record.
- Assists Villagers with ambulating across campus depending on villagers physical abilities/needs.
- Is knowledgeable of and adheres to villager safety/behavior plans.
- Provides watchful oversight of Villagers well-being throughout shift.
- Immediately reports incidents of inappropriate behavior or accidents involving villagers to the appropriate staff.
- Completes weekly inventory of villagers ADL Supplies, clothing, and snacks.
- Communicates and documents villager concerns involving villager behaviors or needs to the villager’s case manager.
- Assists villagers to create grocery lists with healthy food choices, per specific diets to shop in the community.
- Performs other duties as assigned that are necessary and for the best interest of the Villagers, and Annandale at Suwanee, Inc.
The quality of work will be evaluated at least annually using the Annandale Village performance evaluation process.
