Job Title: Instructional Specialist, Teacher Education and Childcare (TEACH) Institute
The Instructional Specialist supports the Teacher Education and Childcare (TEACH) Institute with the development and support of credit and non-credit programs.
Responsibilities:
- Academic Advising: Advises career changers on the steps required to achieve their academic and professional goals. Advise prospective and current teacher education and childcare students as needed. Visit Education classrooms to inform students as needed.
- Teaching: Develops and teaches credit coursework designed to support student success and effective teaching in the K-12 and college classroom (may be delivered in a hybrid, online, or face-to-face format). Observe and support adjunct faculty as needed.
- Recruitment and Retention: Assists with initiatives designed to promote enrollment in EDU classes (registration stations, phone calls, data analysis, caseload review, course promotion, and high school visits). Provides information for high school students about TEACH programs. Coordinates open houses (virtual and/or in-person).
- Curriculum Development: Plans, develops, and reviews non-credit curriculum and instructional materials. Manages the Challenge Exam processes, working with students who apply for and take the exam.
- Community Involvement: Serves as liaison to the public and childcare centers to provide support with non-credit childcare classes and the Child Development Associate (CDA) process.
- Transfer Services: Maintains current knowledge of transfer and testing requirements for teacher educators; distributes information to the department. Connects with representatives from transfer institutions to inform and support AACC students as they prepare to transition to a four-year institution to complete a bachelor's degree in teacher education (Teacher Education Fair).
- Committee Membership: Attends monthly Education department meetings and external committees representing the Education Department and TEACH Institute.
Requirements:
- Master's degree or higher
- Minimum of five years of relevant experience in early childhood and/or elementary education
- Occasional evenings
- Independent transportation
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Higher education teaching experience or adult training experience
- Experience in reading and literacy instruction
