The Anne Arundel County of Department of Social Services is looking for a Family Support Worker II to work at the Annapolis location on 2666 Riva Road, Annapolis, MD 21401. This position supports and assists case workers and social workers who provide intensive, time limited, home based casework services to families in order to protect vulnerable children; to prevent, whenever, possible out-of-home placements, to stabilize crisis situations, to maintain and strengthen healthy family relationships, to facilitate the family’s use of a variety of formal and informal helping resources and to encourage the family’s use of community resources.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
1. Completes regular home visits in order to support and assist case workers assessing the safety of the children in the home. Models appropriate parenting skills discipline techniques; teaches appropriate life skills (meal planning, laundry, shopping, meal preparation, budgeting and house cleaning). Services will be in accordance with service plan that is signed by the family and worker.
2. Document case activity in CJAMS such as any contact with the family, schools, therapists, probation officers, police, court, and doctors and other community providers in accordance with Agency policy.
3. Assist family caseworkers with completion of financial payments to providers and vendors through completion of 312’s and entering data into CJAMS.
4. Link families with appropriate community resources in order to enhance their functioning and to assure assistance, when necessary, in accordance with Agency policy.
5. Provide transportation to children and parents in order to assist families in attending various appointments, meetings, visits, and court hearings; to locate and secure housing; to grocery stores by utilizing state vehicle, personal vehicle, arranging cabs, and/or assisting with referrals and payment for local transportation systems. At all times, the incumbent will provide customer service to both internal and external customers that meet or exceed the standards set by the Department.
6. Completes ASQ Assessment on all children five and under. Interprets results of the assessments and take appropriate actions based on those results.
7. Assist clients with completing necessary forms in order to make applications for benefits or services through community resources.
8. To provide mass care and sheltering to surviving persons following a disaster affecting residence of Anne Arundel County and the State of Maryland, when necessary. These duties may include manning a shelter or assisting residence to file for assistance from FEMA or from State programs.
Education: Must have a high school diploma or equivalency.
Requirements: Employees appointed to positions in this classification may be assigned duties that require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator's license valid in the State of Maryland.
Preferences: Candidates must be familiar with CJAMS, Google Mail, Google Docs, and Word.
This is a county contractual position starting at $18.44/hr with benefits and is subject to a background check.
