This position announcement will be used to fill full-time, permanent, safety sensitive Booking Officer vacancies in the Department of Detention Facilities with Anne Arundel County Government.
Booking Officers work out of the Central Holding and Processing Center located at the Jennifer Road Detention Center.
This is a responsible public safety support position in the Anne Arundel County Department of Detention Facilities' Central Holding and Processing Center responding to citizen inquiries and processing detained, arrested persons.
NATURE AND VARIETY OF WORK
Work involves responsibility for the processing of arrested persons for the purpose of establishing a record or file in the County and or State database system. Work includes fingerprinting, and photographing arrested persons; preparing necessary arrest and related records; and providing information to the public. Work is performed independently within established policies, rules, and regulations, and is reviewed by a ranking supervisor through observation, review of records, and results obtained.
Employees in this class are assigned to day, evening, night or rotating shifts at a Central Holding and Processing Center. Employees are subject to call in on a 24-hour basis during emergencies and staffing shortages. (Note: The arrested person may be verbally or physically abusive or hostile towards an employee in this class.)(Note: The duties and responsibilities enumerated in this class specification are for the purpose of determining a common set of minimum qualifications and salary level for all positions in this class. They are not intended to include all of the essential job functions of all positions in the class.)
Processes arrested persons by obtaining identifying information to be entered into a computer database by operating a personal computer keyboard.
Assists, as needed, with fingerprints, photographs, and placing arrested persons in cells.
Prepares necessary arrest and related records.
Provides information to the public.
Notifies parents or guardians of arrested juveniles.
Enters arrest information into computer.
Work requires overtime and shift work.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Ability to take fingerprints and operate routine photographic equipment.
Ability to prepare and maintain arrest and related records.
Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
Ability to operate a computer terminal.
Ability to hear and respond to questions from arrested persons.EDUCATION: Graduation from high school
EXPERIENCE: One (1) or more years of responsible work experience and six (6) or more months of experience in computer keyboard entry
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS: A valid non-commercial motor vehicle operator's license.
NOTES: - This is a safety sensitive position and employees in this position are subject to Controlled Dangerous Substance (CDS) and alcohol testing. - The selection process includes a comprehensive background and medical evaluation. - Longevity pay is available based on years of service.Preference will be given to candidates who possess the following:
1. Ability to work all shifts including rotating shifts, holidays and weekends 2. One (1) or more years of experience in a position requiring strong attention to detail 3. One or more years of customer service experience providing information and answering questions through face to face and telephone contact 4. Experience working in a public safety environment 5. Experience dealing with stressful situations and/or confrontational customers
