Anne Arundel County Government is currently hiring a full-time, advanced-level, Safety-Sensitive Senior Engineer within the Plan Review and Inspections Division of the Department of Inspections and Permits. The Department strives to provide the citizens of Anne Arundel County with the highest inspection standards that are consistent with adopted codes and regulations. This is a Safety Sensitive position and employees in this position are subject to Controlled Dangerous Substance (CDS) and Alcohol Testing.
This position involves reviewing commercial, residential, and fire protection plans to ensure compliance with various standards, including nationally recognized building, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, fire protection (NFPA 101), and accessibility codes
NATURE AND VARIETY OF WORK

Work involves responsibility for performing plan reviews to assure compliance with Anne Arundel County building, fire, and accessibility codes. Performs professional and technical level work in the building construction code by reviewing plans, specifications, and calculations to verify conformance to adopted codes.
Provides information to the general public and design professionals regarding the requirements of the building, fire, electrical, mechanical, and plumbing codes.
Work is performed within established policies and professional standards and is reviewed through conferences and reports for adherence to schedules and standards applicable to the assignment by higher-level management.(Note: The duties and responsibilities enumerated in this class specification are to determine a common set of minimum qualifications and salary levels for all positions in this class. Interprets, applies and enforces applicable building, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, life safety, and accessibility codes.
Confers with architects, engineers, contractors, and the public on all building and fire code requirements.
Recommends alternative solutions to design and construction problems.
Receives and processes plan review permits; writes detailed letters for customers to obtain code compliance.
Establishes and maintains effective work relations with colleagues, engineers, architects, contractors, inspectors, and the public.
Utility knowledge in the application and use of computer technology and various software packages.
Reviews commercial and/or residential building plans for compliance with adopted building, mechanical, energy, electrical, and plumbing codes.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Knowledge of the application and use of computer technology to related engineering analysis.
Knowledge of commercial, residential, and rehabilitation building and construction code requirements and accepted practices.
Ability to provide technical guidance to less experienced professional engineers and technical support staff.
Ability to establish and maintain effective work relations with colleagues, developers, engineers, architects, contractors, inspectors, and the public.
Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing.Education: A bachelor's degree from an accredited four-year college or university with a degree in engineering or a related field.
Experience: Four (4) or more years of technical experience in engineering; and a valid non-commercial Class C motor vehicle operator's license.
Note: Accredited University or College is the recognition from an accrediting agency that an institution maintains a certain level of educational standards. The U.S. Department of Education maintains a database of accrediting agencies it recognizes for schools within the United States.
For a University or College outside the United States, the applicant must provide documentation of accreditation and educational equivalency, which can be accomplished through a credential evaluation service. Applicants with a foreign degree must provide this documentation upon the close of the announcement.Preference will be given to candidates who possess the following: 1. Four (4) years of experience in reviewing construction plans and specifications for compliance with building and fire protection codes 2. Registered as a Professional Engineer or Architect in the State of Maryland. 3. At least two active ICC certifications.

Salary : $77,836 - $146,919
