Job Summary

We are looking for a dedicated and detail-oriented Grant Development Specialist to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in research, grant/proposal writing, and project coordination. This role identifies, defines and develops funding sources to support existing and planned program activities as well as leading the development, writing, and submission of grant proposals to federal, state, and private funding agencies. The Grant Development Specialist will work closely with various departments to determine proposal concepts by identifying and clarifying opportunities and needs, studying requests for proposals, attending strategy meetings, participating in relevant staff meetings, and developing a strong understanding of the organizations work, programs, priorities, innovations, history, mission, and results.

The successful candidate will possess excellent communication skills, a keen eye for detail, and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously. This position requires a proactive approach to identifying funding opportunities and a thorough understanding of the grant application process.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

  • Study and understand the history, structure, goals, programs, and financial needs of the organization.
  • Identify and research potential funding sources and opportunities from government and non-government organizations.
  • Collaborate with various departments to gather necessary information for grant applications.
  • Assist in the development of budgets for grant proposals.
  • Draft grant proposals and supporting documents based on the funding requirements of the organization.
  • Prepare and submit funding proposals and applications.
  • Ensure each grant/funding project complies with the funder’s policies, formats, timelines, reporting, and legal requirements.
  • Maintain positive relationships with grantors, prospective funders, and other stakeholders.
  • Respond to internal and external queries on drafted and submitted proposals.
  • Maintain records and submit reports related to funding prospects and submitted proposals.
  • Coordinate and participate in funding-related meetings and presentations.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of fundraising strategies.

Qualifications

Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in English, communications, creative writing, business, or a related area.
  • A minimum of two years in grant writing or related experience.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Strong research and analytical skills.
  • Ability to study and understand programs and funding requirements of the organization
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to maintain accurate records and documentation.
  • Multitasking, organizational and time management skills
  • Ability to handle confidential matters with utmost integrity
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build relationships with stakeholders.
  • Ability to analyze and interpret grant guidelines and requirements.
  • Strong problem-solving skills.
  • Knowledge of fundraising strategies and best practices (preferred)
