Job Summary - Career Coach In-School Youth
The Career Coach is responsible for providing career counseling to middle and high school students, coordination of career exploration resources, work with partners on developing career exploration activities and administering these activities in the middle and high schools. The Career Coach will also work with students individually and in groups to assist them in determining their career pathway and matching post-CCR pathway. The Career Coach tracks and reports student progress through data management systems.

- Administer various career interest and aptitude assessments to determine occupational interests and career paths.
- Provide career coaching services to Youth clients while developing their individual career plan.
- Conduct virtual and in-person sessions for students, families, and partner staff to provide an overview of available services, facilitate workshops, teach job readiness skills and other group presentations.
- Work with AACPS staff to coordinate the activities including guest speakers, field trips to business sites, job showings, after school events, etc.
- Partner with teachers and administrators to integrate career counseling in existing classes including business visits and guest speakers.
- Collaborate with other agencies, nonprofits, and community partners to develop programming that assists students.
- Conduct job readiness activities and training.
- Collaborate with internal and external partners to organize and support job readiness activities including, but not limited to mock interviewing, career fairs, job shadowing, essential soft skills training, and work experiences.
- Collaborate with external and internal partners to implement summer career exploration activities.
- Participate in development of career resources to be used by students.
- Assist students in the usage of self-service resources.
- Assist students with identifying work experience and internship opportunities, including apprenticeships.
- Attending conferences, staff meetings, and AAWDC functions, as assigned.
- Other duties as assigned.
Work Hours. As an AAWDC team member, it is AAWDC’s responsibility to determine your work hours in coordination with AACPS. No alternative scheduling or work hours will be accommodated unless sufficient documentation supports a required change in work schedule. The below is the work schedule for Career Coaches :
Middle School Career Coaches
Monday through Thursday : 8 : 30 a.m. to 3 : 45 p.m. (7.25 hrs. each day)
Friday : 8 : 30 a.m. to 2 : 30 p.m. (6 hrs.)
High School Career Coaches
Monday through Friday : 8 : 00 a.m. to 3 : 15 p.m. (7.25 hrs. each day)
Friday : 8 : 00 a.m. to 2 : 00 p.m. (6 hrs.)
Summer. The In-School Career Coach position is a twelve (12) month position : therefore, the expectation is that staff will work over the summer when school is no longer in session and be required to provide support to whichever summer program(s) the Director of In-School Youth Services assigns the team member.
Remote / Virtual Work. The In-School Career Coach position requires staff to be onsite in their assigned schools every day, Monday through Friday, unless Anne Arundel County Public Schools (AACPS) are closed. On days when AACPS is closed but AAWDC is open, AASCE / Blueprint staff are required to report to the Career Center. Unless there is inclement weather and AAWDC’s Human Resources (HR) department has sent out an email with very clear directives about working from home, In-School Career Coaches do not have the option to telework.
