Human Resources (HR) Description: Life Skills Teacher

1) Competencies

The Life Skills Teacher/Team Lead will possess the following competencies:

d. Effectively listen and communicate well with other team members and clients;

e. Work successfully both independently and as a team member, while demonstrating both productivity and flexibility in job performance;

f. Demonstrate a high degree of personal initiative;

g. Awareness of and follow through of AMH policy and procedure;

h. Exhibit a high degree of integrity;

i. Performance is consistently reliable;

j. Possess the willingness and ability to learn and follow best practices;

k. Ability to recognize and assess own needs and feelings and keep them in perspective when professionally engaged; ability to separate personal from professional issues;

l. Ability to model appropriate interpersonal boundaries;

m. Recognize personal strengths and limitations;

n. Uphold confidentiality according to AMH confidentiality and HIPAA policies;

o. Possess skill in the Identification and Reporting of Suspected Child Abuse and Neglect;

p. Be culturally sensitive;

q. Possess knowledge of behavior management techniques;

2. Duties

The Life Skills Teacher/Team Lead’s chain of command is as follows: Case Coordinator, Residential Services Director, Executive Director. The Life Skills Teacher/Team Lead will be responsible for the following duties:

a. Instruct clients and LST’s on proper best practice of parenting and life skill techniques and related child health & safety and sanitation issues;

b. Work in conjunction with the Client Care Team when medical attention for client or their infant appears necessary.

c. Process Quality Improvement (PQI) – Participates in the PQI process and serve on the PQI Committee;

d. Participate in weekly Client Care Team Meetings with the Executive Director and other team members in order to review each client’s progress through her service program;

e. Prepares all lessons for weekly life skills and parenting classes with the team:

f. Works in both a "classroom setting" and on-one-on in the home, with the residents to support and teach life skills and parenting classes.

g. Will become a Nurturing Program Facilitator to assist in training program staff various techniques being taught to the client in order to maintain consistency;

h. Provides training to staff as needed for onboarding or as needed during shifts, includes but not limited on how to meal plan, grocery shop, proper decision making processes when situations arise, supervision of self administration of medication and how to document correctly.

i. Acts as “manager on duty” after hours to facilitate communication with leadership staff regarding behavior interventions or safety concerns.

j. Transports to medical appointments, outings, life skills or recreational activities.

3. Qualifications The Life Skills Teacher/Team Lead:

a. Must be 21 years of age or older;

b. Have a minimum of a High School Diploma with at least 2 years of experience with life skills or parenting training/teaching experience:

c. A valid successful completion of pediatric first aid that includes CPR;

d. Knowledge of health and safety resources available to children with special health care needs and the ability to use these resources to make referrals.

e. Capability in parenting curriculum design and implementation, ensuring that an effective (TPCN approved) best practice curriculum is in place;

f. Oral and written communication skills;

g. Certification of satisfactory completion of instruction in medication;

h. Demonstrated life experience skills in working with children in more than one setting;

i. Excellent Interpersonal skill;

j. Be a person of demonstrated integrity, maturity, and sound judgment; capable of establishing and maintaining a structure;

k. Be a person of proven leadership, capable of guiding others;

l. Must earn 30 hours of continuing education per year (includes 4 hours EBI every 6 months)

m. Must complete education/training in prenatal development and childbirth;

n. Knowledge about parenting training and ability to communicate effectively to parents about developmental-behavioral issues, child progress, and in creating an intervention plan, with the RSD, that speaks to how the center will address challenges and how it will help if those efforts are not effective.

o. Must be able to pass a criminal history and central registry background check with no evidence of history on either report;

p. Pass random drug tests;

q. Must be tested for Tuberculosis according to the recommendations of the TDH or local Williamson County Health authorities;

r. Must participate in required orientation and training.

s. Must have current CPR Certification.

t. Must be capable of maintaining a neutral stance on the question of adoption vs. parenting a child;

Job Types: Full-time, Part-time

Pay: $17.00 - $21.00 per hour

Expected hours: 30 – 40 per week
