An Ambulatory Surgery Center in Scottsdale, AZ is seeking a motivated Certified Surgical Technologist to join our team every Monday! In this role you will provide Surgical Tech coverage in various pain management cases. A Surgical Technician Certification is a requirement for this position.

Hours per week: ~10 hours weekly on Mondays. Shift end times may vary slightly depending on procedures scheduled.

• Monday - 8 hour shift, Surgery Center of Arizona (Scottsdale)
• 7:30 AM - 5:00 PM

Job Summary

Under the direct supervision of the Director of Nursing, the Surgical Technologist scrubs for surgical pain management procedures, and demonstrates competence while functioning as a member of the surgical team. You will prepare and maintain supplies, instruments and equipment related to these procedures by assisting in sterile processing and OR set up. Supports the philosophy, objectives and goals of the Surgery Center at large and actively participates in quality improvement efforts.

Daily Responsibilities: Surgical Technologist

• Prepares for surgical procedures by pulling appropriate instruments and supplies. Reviews case carts for correct instruments and supplies; ensures good working order of instruments.
• Troubleshoots malfunctioning equipment and makes minor adjustments or calls biomedical equipment staff.
• Checks schedule and plans ahead for upcoming surgical case needs.
• Anticipates the surgeon's needs. Scrubs and provides instruments, sutures, and other sterile supplies during surgical procedure. Passes instruments and retracts tissue.
• Demonstrates the principles of aseptic technique and universal precautions throughout the procedure. Participates in counting sharps, instruments and sponges. Prepares instruments for cleaning following each case. Disposes of sharps and trash appropriately in designated areas.
• Ensures that all surgeon preference cards are accurate.
• Assists with OR turnover between cases. Participates in stocking, replenishing supplies and cleaning operating rooms.
• This position follows safety procedures in regard to medication labeling, appropriate handling of specimens, appropriate handling of sharps, time-out procedure, radiation and laser safety, infection control, assembling and disassembling instruments.

Daily Responsibilities: Sterile Processing

• Operates all required equipment and machinery accurately and safely, prepares, assembles, and sterilizes instruments and supplies according to parameters of sterilization in accordance with The Department of Health, TJC, OSHA, CDC, AAMI and AORN standards.
• Maintains appropriate records, and monitors quality control and infection control standards.
• Provides asset management and support of surgical instruments and trays belonging to or consigned to the facility.
• Accurately handles and cares for instruments appropriately, including appropriate selection of cleaning agents, lubricants, examination for function, identification and assembly according to OneSource and preparation for sterilization; retrieves malfunctioning instruments and ensures repairs are completed.
• Correctly peel-packs supplies/instruments, wraps instruments for sterilization, inspect each instrument for use, function, completeness and cleanliness.
• Coordinates with Materials Dept to ensure facility sets are stocked to PAR levels.
• Ensures safe care to patients, staff and visitors; adheres to all FSC policies, procedures and standards and quality of service.
• Promotes individual professional growth and development by meeting requirements for mandatory/continuing education and skills competency; supports department-based goals which contribute to the success of the organization; Communicates with operating room staff to provide required instruments.
• Is responsible for reporting damaged or malfunctioning equipment to the Clinical Director and Material Manager and following the process for replacement.
• Resources to nursing staff in all departments regarding responsibilities of proper sterilization techniques.
• Clean, set up, sterilize and distribute instruments as scheduled on each shift. Maintains records for QA and sterilization.
• Employees are expected to comply with all regulatory requirements, including Joint Commission Standards.
• Is familiar with organization, department and job specific Environment of Care areas, including Life Safety, Hazardous Materials Communications, Emergency Preparedness, Infection Control and Medical Equipment Failure.
• Adheres to Standard Precautions as appropriate, which may include: the use of protective barriers, as appropriate (e.g., gloves, masks, gowns, pocket masks, and/or safety glasses); handling and disposing of infectious waste appropriately; and hand washing as appropriate.

OTHER DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES

• Maintains flexibility to rotate shifts and adjust hours as needed.
• Maintains a work record of regular attendance, timely arrivals and departures. Knows fire and safety procedures for work area.
• Maintains professional appearance appropriate to position and function.
• Wears identification badge while on duty
• Participates in cost effective delivery of care

Qualifications:

• High school graduate or equivalent.
• Completion of an appropriate surgical technician and SPD program.
• Previous experience in an ambulatory surgical center strongly preferred
• Strong knowledge of pain management surgical procedures preferred
• Understanding of aseptic techniques and their implementation
• Ability to quickly adapt to changing condition of the patient when needed
• Must be an excellent team player and have the ability to communicate with staff, patients and physicians

Job Types: Part-time, PRN

Pay: $30.00 - $35.00 per hour

Expected hours: 10 per week
