In Anoka County Community Corrections, our goal is to build a safer community by bridging the gap between incarceration and rehabilitation. Probation Officer Assistants will work directly with offenders involved in various stages of Anoka County Court proceedings.

Position Description
Anoka County Community Corrections' mission is "Working to Build a Safer Community." The department currently has an immediate opening for a Probation Officer Assistant. This position supports Probation Officers within the department. They will be working with the Juvenile Diversion team, conducting diversion hearings and case management duties. In addition, the Probation Officer Assistant will also be assigned the level five surveillance program. They will monitor compliance of the youth to the program with an approved schedule in the community.
This is a part time temporary, non-exempt, on-site position. Interviews will take place the week of 3/3/2025 for those selected to move forward in the hiring process.
Pay & Benefits
  • Salary: $27.55 to $32.37 per hour.
  • March 2025 Anoka County Salary Schedule Grade 30: $27.55 to $37.18 per hour.

Work Location
  • This position will work at Anoka County Courthouse, located at 2100 3rd Ave W-100 Anoka MN 55303.
  • Expected work hours will vary. Level 5 (Surveillance Program) will primarily require weekend and evening hours, with a concentration on weekends. Diversion Program hours can be scheduled Monday – Friday between 8:00 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. The schedule is flexible.
  • This position is an onsite position.
Job Duties and Responsibilities
These examples are not all inclusive and are intended to be illustrative of primary responsibilities of an Anoka County Probation Officer Assistant.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of case activity utilizing department and offender data systems and computer hardware.
  • Completes client reports and Consequence Review reports per policy.
  • Enters and maintains accurate client and case information in Court Services Tracking System (CSTS).
  • Focus on pro-social skill development, effective use of rewards and sanctions, use of a variety of individual counseling approaches, and facilitation of diverse programming.
  • Work collaboratively with a team to ensure all required services and tasks are completed in a timely manner including cross training to cover other duties as needed.
  • Perform case review and take appropriate action according to policy.
  • Provide monitoring assistance for case conditions, prepare reports, interview clients, conduct community client contacts, and other supportive tasks for Diversion and field services.
  • Conduct a Diversion hearing with the youth and guardian/parent. Completes Diversion reports, data sheets, contracts and Discharge reports per policy. Provides a reprimand and follow up conditions that would target criminogenic needs.
  • Focus on pro-social skill development, effective use of rewards and sanctions, use of a variety of individual counseling approaches, and facilitation of diverse programming.
  • Work collaboratively with the team to ensure all required services and tasks are completed in a timely manner including cross training to cover other duties as needed.
Qualifications and Requirements:
Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Needed
  • High school diploma or equivalent education.
  • In lieu of the required education, an equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted on a year-for-year basis
  • Must be 21 years of age or older by date of hire
  • Successfully pass driver’s license background check
  • Must have valid driver's license and vehicle available for business use
Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Needed
  • Degree in Corrections, Criminal Justice, Criminology, Counseling, Psychology, Social Work, Sociology or related field
  • 1-2 years of job-related experience
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
Physical Demands and Work Conditions
  • Standard office environment, field offices, courtrooms, offender'/clients' homes and various community settings depending on assignment
  • Vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust focus, such as to work on computers. Ability to see colors, shades and brightness
  • Hearing abilities required for general and phone communication, signals, and machine sounds
  • Ability to detect, discern, and tolerate a wide range of scents required for safety and performance of essential duties
  • Cognitive abilities required include problem solving, prioritization of tasks, short- and long-term memory, interpreting and understanding written documents, and general mathematical skills
  • Assignments require several hours of varied physical activity in addition to viewing a computer screen, sitting at a desk, or walking/standing
  • Physical activity may include handling/carrying equipment, reaching, climbing or balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling. Periodic high levels of exertion in the form of self-defense, pursuit, or restraint of an individual is possible for some assignments
  • Lifting over 100 lbs. in emergency situations
  • Equipment used includes computers, phones, and standard office equipment in addition to various law enforcement equipment depending on assignment
  • Law enforcement equipment may include but is not limited to radios, pagers, handcuffs, first aid equipment, restraints, chemical agents, Tasers, and protective equipment such as masks, goggles, and gloves
  • Travel between work sites will require driving a county vehicle and/or a personal vehicle
  • Additional physical/mental requirements that occur may not be listed above, but are inherent in performing the position's essential functions
  • Exposure to bodily fluids, toxic or caustic chemicals, fumes, or other hazards is possible while performing essential duties
