Hiring range: $57,262 to $67,288 ($27.53 to $32.35 per hour). The starting rate will depend on experience, education, and qualifications. The department has an immediate opening for a Land Surveyor Technician who will perform various duties. Some of the critical responsibilities of this position include collecting accurate field survey measurements using survey instruments in accordance with all applicable requirements. Performing boundary, topography, and right-of-way surveys for various county projects.This is a full-time, non-exempt, on-site position. Interviews will take place the week of April 30th, 2025, for those selected to move forward in the hiring process. Pay & BenefitsSalary: $57,262 to $67,288 ($27.53 to $32.35 per hour).2025 Anoka County Salary Schedule Grade 30: $57,262 to $77,292 ($27.53 to $37.16 per hour).24 days of paid flexible time off and up to 12.5 paid holidays.Comprehensive insurance, including medical, dental, vision, flex benefits and more at https://www.anokacountymn.gov/417/BenefitsMedical and dental clinic exclusive to employees, located at the Anoka County Government Center.Pension plan and other retirement investment options.Advancement/professional development opportunities.Work LocationThis position will work at the Anoka County Highway building located at 1440 Bunker Lake Blvd NW, Andover, MN 55304.Expected work hours are Monday – Friday 7:00 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.Job Duties and ResponsibilitiesThese examples are not all inclusive and are intended to be illustrative of primary responsibilities of an Anoka County Land Surveyor Technician.Collect accurate field survey measurements using survey instruments in accordance with all applicable requirements. Perform boundary, topography, and right of way surveys for various county projects.Maintain Public Land Survey (PLS) monuments including monitoring location certificates, removing and replacing monuments, re-positioning, and checking ties to PLS monuments.Prepare graphic displays, drawings, and maps for various county departments, including topographical and architectural drawings, tax forfeit maps, signs, and charts.Prepare and/or check documents, drawings and data using computer aided drafting software, GIS software, or other software programs.Maintain county maps, plats, and aerial photos and perform the necessary dissemination of information to county departments and the public.Conduct research on legal interpretation, map assembly, and field notes. Convert field notes and instructions into maps or graphic displays.Remain current on rapidly changing technology such as Global Position Systems (GPS), computer-aided drafting (CAD), total stations and data collectors, and digital levels.Maintain survey instruments and measuring vehicles using routine and preventative maintenance procedures.Provide leadership, coaching, and/or mentoring to a subordinate group as assigned.Qualifications and Requirements: Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities NeededRequires accreditation from a technical school or applicable trades program with a land surveying or civil engineering emphasis or minimum of 2 years of job-related experienceIn lieu of the required education, an equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted on a year-for-year basisSuccessfully pass driver’s license background checkPreferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities NeededStrong verbal and written communication skillsKnowledge of land surveying techniques and proceduresKnowledge of construction specification, environmental statements, federal laws, and state statutesProblem solving and data analysisAdvanced mathematics, including trigonometry, algebra and coordinate geometryAttention to detailPhysical Demands and Work ConditionsStandard office environment, and various county work sites both indoor and outdoor, including unfinished structures, construction areas, rough terrain, and changing weather conditions depending on assignmentWork activities may require contact with uncooperative, angry, and sometimes hostile clients depending on assignmentVision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust focus, such as to work on computers. Ability to see colors, shades and brightnessHearing abilities required for general and phone communication, signals, and machine soundsAbility to detect, discern, and tolerate a wide range of scents required for safety and performance of essential dutiesCognitive abilities required include problem solving, prioritization of tasks, short- and long-term memory, interpreting and understanding written documents, and general mathematical skillsAssignments require several hours of varied physical activity in addition to viewing a computer screen, sitting at a desk, or walking/standingPhysical activity may include repeated bending, stooping, reaching, twisting, walking on sloped or uneven terrain, and handling/carrying equipmentRegular lifting of 0-25 lbs., occasional lifting of up to 75 lbs.Equipment used includes computers, phones, and standard office equipment in addition to various inspection and surveying equipment depending on assignmentInspection and surveying equipment may include but is not limited to digital camera, tape measure, hammer, chisels, boom truck and other machinery, electronic drafting equipment, material testing equipment, power and hand tools, and personal protective equipmentTravel between work sites may require driving a county vehicle and/or a personal vehicleReasonable accommodation may be made to enable qualified individuals with disabilities to perform essential job functionsSelection ProcessIt is important that your application show all the relevant education and experience you possess.
