Junior Storage engineer
Job Overview:
We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Junior Storage Engineer to join our team. In this role, you will play a critical part in managing data protection systems, ensuring reliable backups, and providing technical support for storage operations. The ideal candidate will have a foundational understanding of backup and storage technologies, along with excellent troubleshooting and operational skills.
Key Responsibilities:
- Regular/Periodic Operational Tasks:
- Install and set up data protection software.
- Perform periodic patching and upgrading of data protection software (DP SW).
- Generate backup reports on demand.
- Address and fulfill periodic audit requests.
- Handle ServiceNow tickets for backups, restores, and schedule changes.
- Hardware Management:
- Manage disk/tape hardware, including Data Domain systems and LTO tape drives.
- Liaise with vendors to resolve support cases.
- Technical Support and Escalation:
- Act as an escalation point for troubleshooting Unix and Windows backups.
- Collaborate with Linux/Windows administrators to troubleshoot backup/restore issues.
- Install, patch, and upgrade Spectrum Protect and Veritas NetBackup products.
Good-to-Have Skills:
- Experience with Linux/Unix, including command-line operations, shell scripting, and Python programming.
- Familiarity with API programming.
- Knowledge of SAN (Storage Area Network) and NAS (Network Attached Storage) technologies.
- Understanding of cyber recovery and air-gap technologies for enhanced data protection.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
- Proficiency in technical troubleshooting and problem-solving.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively in team environments with minimal supervision.
- Strong organizational skills, including the ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize effectively.
