Description: What you'll be doing

Another Source’s client, Monterey Bay Aquarium, is recruiting a Director of Education Operations to join their team in Monterey Bay, CA.  This hybrid role offers the flexibility to work remotely 1-2 days per week.

The Role:  

Oversee the Education division’s facilities, data, and finance operations, with the goal of elevating and equipping young changemakers to innovate solutions for a healthy ocean. Collaborate with Education Programs teams as well as Operations staff to ensure that business processes and systems are developed and maintained to yield optimal productivity and performance; oversee the Education Division budget and CRM system (Salesforce); and serve on the Education leadership team to develop and execute the strategic plan. Create a work culture of equity and accountability; coach staff in their professional development goals; recruit new staff members; and effectively communicate Education’s long-term vision, strategic plan, and annual work plan. Perform other duties as required.

Breakdown of responsibilities:   

  • 15% - Develop and maintain a clear vision for Education Operations (data, facilities, finance, and administration).   
  • 15% - Oversee team performance, creating a positive culture of accountability; complete periodic performance appraisals; mentor and coach team members; create and implement staff development plans.  
  • 15% - Oversee the creation and implementation of annual work plans for Education Operations teams.  
  •  15% - Oversee the creation and maintenance of the division’s Customer Relationship Management system in Salesforce. Develop and maintain processes, procedures, and systems that ensure participant and impact data is accurately captured, maintained, secured, interpreted, and reported, in collaboration with Education Programs teams, Operations staff, and other Aquarium Divisions.  
  • 10% - Establish and document business policies, protocols, and procedures related to Education Division operations to ensure that consistent, efficient workflows are in place, yielding optimal productivity and performance. Continually evaluate and improve systems to ensure smooth operations.  
  • 10% - Oversee the Education Division budget, supporting managers across the division in the development and monitoring of departmental budgets. Oversee financial reporting, managing relationships and agreements with the Aquarium’s Finance team, as well as external partners and vendors.  
  • 5% - Identify opportunities to publish articles highlighting our Operational processes, and support staff in the publishing process. 
  • 5% - Represent Education on Aquarium-wide committees and work teams, as needed. 
  • 5% - Stay abreast of current trends, methods, and research about Education Operations through conference attendance, research, and cross-organizational collaborations. 
  • 5% - Promote and support the Aquarium’s mission internally, with education and science communities, and to the public.  

  

Required Experience: 

  •  Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility, both personally and through the development of equitable education programs  
  • Demonstrated commitment to the Aquarium’s Leadership Competencies  
  • Strong people leader with attention to detail and strong communication skills 
  • Extensive and diverse experience in database management, including demographic data (Salesforce) 
  • Experience with developing and executing SOPs 

 

Preferred Qualifications:   

  • Master of Business Administration degree, or seven years’ experience in a related field with significant coursework  
  • 7-10 years of supervisory and leadership experience including staff management, recruitment, training, feedback, and performance appraisal  
  • Extensive experience developing and monitoring budgets  
  • Experience in creating and implementing strategic plans  
  • Detail- and process-oriented  
  • Strong and effective interpersonal skills, team-oriented  
  • Demonstrated success overseeing projects and leading project teams  
  • A high degree of versatility and ability to prioritize and coordinate a variety of competing priorities concurrently and meet deadlines  
  • Excellent oral communication and formal writing skills  
  • Able to perform under heavy deadline pressures and solve problems resourcefully 
  • Able to maintain a broad perspective while focusing on tasks and details  
  • Experience with various business technologies  
  • Proven data management skills  
  • Ability to work within, and maintain Monterey Bay Aquarium’s Core Values  
  • Ability to promote and support the Aquarium’s mission internally, with education and science communities, and to the public

Targeted salary range: $104,900 - $134,000; relocation assistance available
