Saint Anselm College, a private, liberal arts college in the Benedictine tradition, is seeking a dynamic and experienced Planned Giving Officer. Reporting to the Assistant Vice President, Major Gifts and Campaign Director, the Planned Giving Officer will play a key role in generating planned and major gifts for Saint Anselm College. The Gift Planning team is focused on increasing future and current support for the College's core priorities. This includes current, revocable and irrevocable gifts, using outright gifts and estate and retirement planning to accomplish a donor's intention.

The ideal candidate will engage with alumni, parents, and friends within a geographically based portfolio to cultivate relationships, manage marketing strategies, and raise awareness of planned gift vehicles. There will also be the opportunity to manage class volunteer leaders as they partner with gift planning to increase the number of class estate commitments, growing both future dollars and new members of the legacy society at Saint Anselm.

Examples of Duties :

  • Advance individual relationships that result in philanthropic contributions : Research, identify, qualify, cultivate, and solicit major and legacy gifts by managing a domestic based portfolio of 130-150 donors with demonstrated loyalty to the College.
  • Travel & Engagement : Visit 10-12 donors / prospects monthly along with significant phone, text, and email outreach. Travel is required to engage donor prospects and to steward existing donors. There is an expectation of submitting timely contact reports for each visit.
  • Estate Management : Over time, take over the responsibilities to oversee the probate and estate settlement processes in accordance with Saint Anselm's guidelines and fiduciary standards, communicating directly with attorneys, trustees, and internal stakeholders to manage family expectations and acknowledge estate planned gifts.
  • Life Income Plans Administration : Over time, take over the responsibilities to manage the administration of Saint Anselm's life income plans, collaborating with donors, beneficiaries, and external partners to ensure effective management and compliance.
  • Technical Expertise : Acquire technical knowledge in tax, investment, and legal aspects of charitable giving to articulate effectively in discussions with donors, counsel, colleagues, and volunteers.
  • Internal Training / Information sharing : Elevate the number of external conversations that include gift planning across the department's development team by helping to build confidence and skill in every colleague's gift conversation. Partner closely with colleagues across all advancement departments to achieve integrated advancement operations, leveraging this constructive collaboration to increase alumni participation in fundraising initiatives.
  • Strategic Marketing : Over time, take over the responsibilities to strategize and oversee gift planning marketing and communications to raise awareness of planned giving vehicles with our alumni and volunteers.
  • Strategic Communication : Gain a comprehensive understanding of the priorities of the College and make a persuasive verbal and written case for supporting key programs and projects, effectively matching the interests of prospects to specific College needs.
  • Teamwork / Collaboration : Work closely with the Senior Director, Gift Planning and the Advancement Coordinator to design, track, and oversee gift planning marketing, as well as receipt and acknowledgment of all deferred gifts and bequests.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree required; Master's encouraged. Minimum 3-5 years of major gift or planned giving experience, preferably in a college / university setting, with demonstrable success in cultivating and soliciting capital, program, endowment, and planned gifts from individuals at all monetary levels, with success making solicitations alone, and in conjunction with volunteers and organization leaders. Will also consider a candidate with five years professional experience in estate or financial planning with demonstrated success with helping clients with charitable estate planning.

Strong interpersonal skills are required, both written and oral, as well as sophistication and maturity in social and professional settings. Incumbent must be able to travel locally and nationally to meet with donors and prospective donors to raise money on behalf of the College. Ability to work various hours including nights and / or weekends.

  • Strong collaborative skill set. Ability to be a contributing part of a positive work environment through collaboration and active partnership.
  • The successful candidate will have gift planning marketing experience in addition to a keen sense of how to tactfully engage individuals, couples, and families on topics of financial planning and legacy giving.
  • Strong volunteer management experience.
  • Self-motivation with the ability to prioritize, take initiative and work independently is highly valued.
  • Excellent attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to handle sensitive matters discreetly.
  • Strong organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines independently or as part of a team.
  • Familiarity with CRMs and prospect research tools such as Raiser's Edge- NXT, PGCalc, and / or iWave.
  • Proficiency in standard office software tools and applications.
  • This position is eligible for a hybrid work schedule.
