DESCRIPTION

Under the direction of the Director Student Equity, coordinates, plans, and oversees the activities of the Student Equity program in accordance with college goals and applicable funding regulations to meet established program criteria; plans, organizes, coordinates and oversees the daily activities of the Books HELP Program, Guardian Scholars Program, ARCHES Program, Focus180 Program, and other Student Equity Programs as assigned. Responsible for coordinating, reviewing, verifying student eligibility; provides technical assistance and referrals to campus wide Student Equity programs; performs other related duties as may be assigned.

REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES

  • Plans, organizes, coordinates and oversees the daily activities of a variety of essential student services programs in Student Equity. (E)
  • Coordinates a variety of student and community related programs, events and activities, city and organizational fairs, festivals, campus activities and meetings. (E)
  • Recruits, trains, and provides work direction and guidance to student workers responsible for assisting with student services events. (E)
  • Coordinates with external and internal agencies and systems serving as a liaison between the District and community resources. (E)
  • Assist in the development and implementation of strategies to promote recruitment and retention at Antelope Valley College. (E)
  • Coordinates and implements changes as required to meet student and program needs; program policies and procedures; establishes timelines. (E)
  • Coordinates and conducts presentations, orientations, and workshops for students. (E)
  • Develops and coordinates materials for essential student services programs in Student Equity. (E)
  • Attends and participates in on and off campus conferences and seminars. (E)
  • Coordinates services with and refers students to other college programs and to community support agencies; communication and activities with other District departments and personnel, students, educational institutions, vendors, other outside organizations and the general public. (E)
  • Verifies student eligibility for a variety of essential student service programs in Student Equity. (E)
  • Assists in compiling tabulating and preparing a variety of records, reports and documents for District, County, State, and Federal offices and agencies; assures compliance with local, state, county, and federal standards. (E)
  • Serves on various committees, task forces, and other special groups within assigned functional areas. (E)
  • Serves as liaison between the community college and community resource programs; responds to student complaints, concerns, and related issues. (E)
  • Maintains knowledge of computer and related techniques that affect recruitment and retention and enrollment management practices. (E)
  • Prepares periodic and special reports, brochures, handbooks, correspondence and other written materials; prepares and submits information for budget preparation; submits purchase requisitions for ordering materials and equipment. (E)
  • Performs other related duties as may be assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Associate’s Degree in Business, Sociology, or a related area and work experience with diverse academic students and/or target groups OR any Associate’s Degree and four years of increasingly responsible related experience working in programs for diverse groups.

KNOWLEDGE OF:


  • Methods and techniques in working with prospective students.
  • Methods and techniques in working with college students and groups.
  • Principles of training and providing work direction.
  • Concepts of recruitment, marketing and public relations.
  • Proper lifting techniques.
  • Organization, policies, and procedures of assigned area of educational administration.
  • Basic functions and programs of community college setting.
  • The needs and sensitivities and understanding of diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students.
  • Community resources including governmental, community, and social service organizations and their functions.
  • Local, state, county, and federal social service program regulations, policies, procedures, and guidelines.
  • Student Equity program practices, policies, program content and regulations policies, procedures, and guidelines.
  • Correct English usage, grammar, spelling, punctuation and vocabulary.
  • Oral and written communication skills.
  • Modern office methods, procedures and equipment.
  • Statistical record keeping.
  • Establishment of files and information retrieval systems.
  • Office machines and equipment including computers.

ABILITIY TO:
  • Learn applicable section of State education code and other applicable laws.
  • Learn and apply district operations, policies, and objectives.
  • Learn and apply the philosophy, objectives, and policies of student services.
  • Work a flexible schedule potentially involving evening, weekend and holiday hours in accordance with the CBA.
  • Learn, understand and explain college preparatory curriculum for high school students,
  • college curriculum and regulations.
  • Learn, understand and explain Financial Aid application and general processes.
  • Lift, move and break down equipment, displays, furniture and totes used for various events and presentations.
  • Maintain accurate records.
  • Work independently with little supervision.
  • Meet schedules and deadlines.
  • Establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others.
  • Direct a team of student workers.
  • Communicate effectively in all methods of communications with diverse populations.
  • Travel within the service area of the college.
  • Exercise judgment in reviewing, approving, coordinating funding and service to students.
  • Establish and maintain working relationships with campus and community agencies.

OTHER INFORMATION

WORK DIRECTION, LEAD AND SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: Not applicable – no permanent full-time staff to supervise.

CONTACTS: Deans, Directors, managers, co-workers, other departmental staff, students, outside agencies, and the general public.

  • Pulling/Pushing heavy objects on dollies or carts
