Job Objective:
Under the management of the Director of Engineering/Facilities and the day to day supervision of the Project Manager, the Construction Worker II will perform a variety of Journeyman, skilled duties in the repair, servicing, general maintenance and new construction of the hospital's physical plant, equipment and associated Buildings to accomplish the objectives of the department.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Construction Project Responsibilities:
- Operations of heavy equipment i.e. forklift, trencher, front loader, finisher, backhoe, dump truck, concrete saw, jack hammer etc.
- Take initiative to expand performance of duties.
- Functions effectively under pressure and meets time parameters.
- Computer Support:
- Log time and supplies appropriately on Work Order System.
- Safety:
- Maintain a safe and clean work area.
- Reports equipment and areas in need of repair to Supervisor.
Non-Essential Duties:
- Make routine building rounds of the facility, medical office buildings, physical plant and other offsite buildings.
- Learn basic computer skills
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge
- Knowledge of construction standards.
- Full knowledge of wall repair of drywall, plastered, stucco and other types.
- Full knowledge of different types of paints as required by applications.
- Full Knowledge of all construction materials and their uses.
- Knowledge and safe use hand and power tools i.e. layout and measuring tools, cutting tools, drilling and boring tools, finishing and fastening tools, etc.
- Knowledge of the uses of the more common hand tools.
- Knowledge of the safety issues related to the construction industry.
- Knowledge of ladder and scaffolding safety.
- Knowledge of self-protection equipment i.e. gloves, eye protection, ear plugs, etc.
- Knowledge, understanding and complying with numerous local and state building codes.
- Knowledge and safe use hand and power tools i.e. layout and measuring tools, cutting tools, drilling and boring tools, finishing and fastening tools, etc.
- Knowledge of self-protection equipment i.e. gloves, eye protection, ear plugs, etc.
Skills
- Experience in one or more constriction fields.
- Read Blue Prints
- Installation of a Stud Wall
- Hang Door and Frame
- Drywall Installation

- Painting
- Use of Construction Tools (tape measure, ladder, drills, saws, hammers, screwdrivers, etc.)

Abilities
- Ability to read and write English at an equivalent of High School graduate level.
- Ability to read and interpret architectural/engineering drawings and specifications
- Ability to schedule all or parts of projects.
- Ability to do parts, materials and equipment job take-offs of needed for all types of jobs.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:
- Work usually performed in a high temperature and noisy environments.

- Work often requires stooping, kneeling, crouching and crawling in awkward positions.
- Work in environments, which put them at risk of exposure to blood borne pathogens or TB. Employees are trained to always use Universal Precautions in these environments.
