DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
In this part time/ variable hour position, the camp counselor staff will supervise and lead recreational/educational activities to children ages 5 through 12. Children participate in daily activities such as arts & crafts, swimming, Rockwall climbing, gym games, and outdoor games. The selected applicant(s) will maintain a fun, safe and supervised atmosphere for children through structured and unstructured activities. ACC employees must be willing to follow the Anthem Way, a statement of our values.
Managers will be the first point of contact for the parents and will be supervising the leads and counselors ensuring they are maintaining a safe environment, following the scheduled activities, and managing any behavior situations that arise.
Requirements:
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
- Maintains a safe environment for children placed in his/her care.
- Assists in providing structured activities for children in program of focus
- Supervises the management of daily staff schedules.
- Ability to actively engage in activities with the children which will include sports activities, water activities in the pool, safely harnessing children for the rock wall and monitoring.
- Keeps accurate attendance records
- Keeps accurate Incident reports and report them immediately to the Program Manager
- Enforces camp policies regarding conduct and daily operations (opening duties, closing duties, etc.)
- Models all skills in arts & crafts, specialty, sports, etc. in a fun, positive and non-competitive manner
- Maintains discipline during each activity. Reports to Program Manager repetitive or extreme discipline matters
- Supervises lunch and snack activities and ensures cleanliness of area
- Interacts in a professional manner with employees, participants and their parent(s) and/or guardians
- Maintains the cleanliness and accurate inventory of all applicable areas
- Attends all staff meetings as scheduled
- Maintains accurate time card activity
- Ensures that state licensing policies and procedures are enforced and followed
- Must be physically able to safely play with children in swimming pool activities, which includes physically being in the water with the children.
- Must be physically able to watch and aid children on the indoor rock wall with 45 pounds of weight resistance
- Executes emergency action plans in event of an emergency which can include performing first aid functions and emergency care until arrival of Emergency Medical Services
- Assists camp counselor and lead staff as needed with activities and children.
- Ensures daily camp activities stick to the schedule
- Must meet AZ State Licensing standards for facility director’s designee
- Other duties as assigned
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
- Education & Experience (one of the following)
1. At least 12 months of childcare experience, a high school or high school equivalency diploma, and:
a. Three credit hours or more in early childhood, child development, or a closely related field from an accredited college or university, or
b. At least 30 actual hours of instruction, provided in conferences, seminars, lectures, or workshops in early childhood, child development, or a closely related field.
2. At least 12 months of childcare experience and:
a. An N.A.C., C.D.A., or C.C.P. credential; or
b. At least 24 credit hours from an accredited college or university, including at least six credit hours in early childhood, child development, or a closely related field.
3. At least six months of childcare experience and an associate degree from an accredited college or university in early childhood, child development, or a closely related field; or
4. At least three months of childcare experience and a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in early childhood, child development, or a closely related field
- Knowledge of objectives and principles of administration of public recreation programs helpful.
- Must be at least 21 years of age, and have aptitude for detail, highly effective interpersonal and problem-solving skills. Excellent communication skills are also required in this position.
- Preferred: CPR & First Aid certifications (current), Arizona Fingerprint clearance card, a health care provider’s signed statement saying employee is free from TB, dated w/in 6 months of start date.
- Work location– Anthem Community Center –41130 N. Freedom Way, Anthem.
HOURS
Must be available to work part time hours between the hours of 6:30am – 6:15pm Monday through Friday, starting May 13th, 2024.
ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Must be physically and intellectually capable of operating a personal computer, printer, facsimile machine, phone, and various other routine business equipment items.
- Ability to see well enough to read faint or partially obscured writing or printing.
- Must be able to speak, read and write English so that various types of communication may be conducted with people of various levels of education and capabilities both in person and over the phone.
- Perform physical activities (possibly for extended periods of time) that require considerable use of your arms and legs and moving your whole body, with a full range of motions including walking, sitting, standing, stooping, kneeling, reaching, pushing, pulling, twisting, bending, lifting, and carrying.
- Position requires the ability to exert minimal force of up to 20 pounds and occasionally up to 60 pounds of force to move objects.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
- Must be able to work on more than one assignment at a time with frequent interruptions, changes, and delays.
- Must remain alert to working conditions and aware of safety, health, and environmental concerns.
- Must be able to work effectively with a positive attitude and demeanor in an environment which may be stressful due to adversarial situations resulting from the proper performance of duties.
- Position will alternate between working indoors in a controlled climate to an outdoors setting with variable climate.
