Job Overview
We are seeking a detail-oriented and knowledgeable medical coder/office assistant to join our healthcare team. The position is in a rural solo doctor family practice clinic. The ideal candidate will be responsible for accurately coding medical records and ensuring compliance with industry standards in addition to general back office duties. The staff member will work closely with healthcare providers and administrative staff to ensure that all coding is completed accurately and efficiently.
Responsibilities
- Review and analyze patient medical records to assign appropriate ICD-10 and ICD-9 codes.
- Ensure accurate coding for medical billing, collections, and reimbursement processes.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of medical terminology, coding guidelines, and regulations.
- Collaborate with healthcare providers to clarify diagnoses and procedures as needed.
- Assist in the management of medical records systems to ensure compliance with legal and ethical standards.
- Conduct audits of coded data to identify discrepancies and implement corrective actions.
- Stay informed about changes in coding practices, regulations, and payer requirements.
- Handle additional back office duties such as prior authorizations.
Skills
- Proficiency in ICD-10 coding; familiarity with ICD-9 is a plus.
- Strong understanding of medical billing processes and medical terminology.
- Experience working in a medical office environment preferred.
- Knowledge of medical records management systems.
