A Crane Operator (Terminal) is responsible for operating cranes to lift, move, and position heavy materials or equipment within the yard or terminal. This role will primarily be operating a tracked boom crane at a Marine Terminal, transferring containers between the ship and the shore. The role requires precision, adherence to safety standards, and coordination with team members to ensure smooth and efficient operations. Bilingual English & Spanish
Key Responsibilities:
- Crane Operation:
- Safely operate cranes to lift, move, and place cargo, materials, or equipment.
- Maneuver crane controls to ensure accurate placement of loads.
- Perform operations according to load charts and safety guidelines.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Safety Compliance:
- Conduct pre-operation checks on cranes to ensure they are in safe working condition.
- Follow all safety protocols to prevent accidents, including proper load rigging and weight capacity adherence.
- Use personal protective equipment (PPE) and promote a safe working environment.
- Load Handling:
- Coordinate with signalers or spotters to lift and position loads accurately.
- Secure loads using appropriate rigging, slings, or chains.
- Monitor the load's stability during lifting and movement.
- Equipment Maintenance:
- Perform routine maintenance and minor repairs on cranes, such as lubrication and inspections.
- Report any malfunctions or damage to supervisors immediately.
- Maintain cleanliness and functionality of the crane.
- Team Collaboration:
- Work closely with yard supervisors, laborers, and other operators to ensure efficient operations.
- Communicate effectively with ground crew using signals or radios.
- Assist with other yard duties as needed when not operating the crane.
- Documentation:
- Keep logs of crane activities, including loads handled and maintenance performed.
- Complete required safety and inspection reports.
- Additional Duties as Assigned.
Skills and Qualifications:
- Technical Skills:
- Proficient in operating different types of cranes (e.g., overhead, mobile, or gantry cranes).
- Knowledge of rigging techniques and load weight calculations.
- Attention to Detail:
- Ability to operate cranes precisely and safely in confined or busy spaces.
- Physical Stamina:
- Capability to work in physically demanding environments, including standing and climbing.
- Communication Skills:
- Clear communication with team members and adherence to hand signals or radio instructions.
Required Qualifications:
- Crane operator certification or license (as required by local or national regulations).
- Experience working in a yard, construction, or port environment.
- Knowledge of safety regulations and equipment handling procedures.
- Forklift or additional equipment operation certifications.
- Experience operating a large forklift / Top loader
- Must be bilingual in English and Spanish
Working Conditions:
- Primarily outdoor work in varying weather conditions, including heat, cold, and rain.
- Physically demanding role requiring climbing, bending, and standing for extended periods.
- Rotating shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays, depending on yard operations.
