What are the responsibilities and job description for the Museum Store Manager position at Antique Boat Museum?
Position Description: Reporting directly to the Controller, and in conjunction with the Executive Director, this position provides hands-on management, and follow-through for all aspects of the in-season and off-season operations of the Antique Boat Museum Store and ecommerce site. Serving as ABM’s ambassador while making an important first impression to all guests who enter the Museum and provide the full visitor experience leaving a lasting positive impression.
Museum Store Philosophy: At the ABM Museum Store, many of the products we sell are collection inspired and authentic. We ensure the integrity of our products through research and by working closely with our curatorial department. Our products embody the spirit of good design and historical objects from the permanent collection. Some of them are actual designs represented in the Museum's collection. The Museum’s “DNA” should be represented in the product sold and consistency in brand identity.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Hire, train and supervise seasonal staff team for the Museum Store and Admissions
- Organize weekly schedules for seasonal Museum Store and Admissions staff ensuring both areas have proper coverage at all times during the Museum’s open hours and special events.
- Serving as the buyer for the ABM Store, this position is responsible for seeking out a mix of product that reflects ABM’s collection as well as being distinctly River while remaining true to the museum’s DNA. Selection of product needs to span price points to accommodate both higher-end and budget conscious consumers.
- Cultivate and maintain vendor relations.
- Responsible for developing and working within an established annual budget.
- Responsible for managing the infrastructure related to inventory and sales both in-store and online.
- Prepare purchase orders when product is ordered and accurately receiving product into POS system.
- Maintain and monitor store inventory conducting regular audits of store’s physical inventory and maintain meticulous inventory in the POS system.
- Reconcile, as needed, the monthly detailed inventory reports provided by the Controller.
- Troubleshooting and resolving issues while keeping Controller informed with finance related items.
- Manage online store from selecting product offerings to facilitating image and description uploads.
- Timely fulfilling of online store orders including identifying cost-effective shipping method.
- Ensure that the store is clean, safe, and presentable to ABM visitors, guests and staff team.
- Responsible for the creation of vibrant store floor plan with attractive, eye-catching displays.
- Assist with opening/closing procedures of campus buildings and exhibits.
- Greet and assist visitors and guests.
- Attention to detail and proper handling of various forms of payments including credit cards, cash and checks in POS (Point-of-Sale) software is a must.
- Generate and review daily sales reports in POS. Communicate progress towards monthly sales goals along with concepts and strategies to store team.
- Generate and/or delegate task of sharing daily and weekly visitor reports from Admissions.
- Other duties as assigned by the Controller and/or Executive Director.

Qualifications and Required Skills:
- Minimum of 1-year of customer service experience. Supervisory experience preferred.
- Strong experience managing daily operations of a retail store including cash handling control.
- Ability to foster a team while creating a positive working environment.
- Experience in training and directing others.
- Ability to take initiative and participate in making decisions.
- Demonstrated ability to achieve goals.
- Proficiency in point-of-sale software, ecommerce platforms, and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule including most in-season weekends.
- Detail oriented with superior organizational and multitasking abilities.
- Good merchandising skills with a flair for conceiving and implementing creative product displays.
Job Types: Full-time, Part-time
Pay: $18.50 - $21.50 per hour
