What are the responsibilities and job description for the Assistant Sailing Instructor position at Antique Boat Musuem?
Reporting directly to the Museum Educator, this seasonal position will physically assist students with launching, rigging, and storing boats and providing instruction for Optimists and Sunfish.
Responsibilities
- Instruction for Optimists and Sunfish
- Work with youth, teens, and adults
- Physically assist students in launching, rigging and storing boats
- Be a responsible, reliable, enthusiastic presence with good judgment and leadership
- Take responsibility for ensuring a safe, organized and educational waterfront and fleet
- Perform seamanship skills to include keeping boats, equipment and storage facility clean and neat
- Ensure preparation and planning as well as daily review and documentation of program
- Communicate relevant history of the Thousand Islands Region to ABM students.
- Instruct, evaluate and document improvement in sailing skills of all ABM students
- Evening and weekend availability required
- Other duties and responsibilities deemed necessary to meet the objectives of the sailing school and Education Department
Skills
- Strong background and experience in sailing
- Knowledge of Optimist and Sunfish rigging and sailing
- Work well with people of all ages
- Current First Aid and CPR certifications preferred
- Pass a pre-employment drug test
- USCG or equivalent Safe Boating Certification or willingness to obtain
- Previous experience in coaching, teaching or otherwise supervising children
- Self-motivated team player
- Good communication skill
