What are the responsibilities and job description for the Waterfront Crew position at Antique Boat Musuem?
Reporting to the Museum Educator, the Waterfront Crew interacts with Museum guests daily and must be friendly, welcoming, and knowledgeable. Their goal is to have guests take advantage of free skiff rowing while also ensuring the safety of people and property. The Livery is open 7 days a week from 12-4pm. The Crew may work on other projects as assigned by the Educator, including supervising field trips, giving tours of the Gilded Age houseboat La Duchesse, and special events programming. In case of inclement weather, the Waterfront crew will serve as gallery attendants throughout the ABM facilities.
Responsibilities:
- Open and close the skiff livery each day
- Inform visitors of the availability and regional significance of skiffs
- Register participants and inform them of safety measures
- Assist visitors in launching, docking and rowing skiffs
- Help maintain Small Craft Building and Skiff Livery/Sailing equipment
- Help with Tuesday Night Sailing & Rowing and other special programming
- Assist with other duties as assigned
Preferred Qualifications:
- Strong background and experience with boating, particularly small craft
- Knowledge of the St. Lawrence River Work well with people of all ages
- Current First Aid and CPR certifications preferred but not required
- Pass a pre-employment drug test
- USCG or equivalent Safe Boating Certification or willingness to obtain
- Boating experience
- Self-motivated team player
- Good communication skills
