General Purpose
Under the direct supervision of the Administrative Sergeant with overall direction of the County Sheriff, the Recreational Deputy is responsible for oversite of the marine and snowmobile patrol, along with investigating accidents and complaints related to these recreational activities.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
An employee in this position may be called upon to do any or all of the following essential functions. These examples do not include all of the duties, which the employee may be expected to perform. 1. Supervises staff of the marine and snowmobile patrol, and assists in recruiting, interviewing and hiring staff in conjunction with Human Resources.
2. Providing training, assigning and scheduling work, reviewing performance, and resolving employee relations issues.
3. Monitors marine and snowmobile patrol budget and expenditures against the approved budget.
4. Responsible for maintenance of boats, snowmobiles, trailers, trucks, and related equipment.
5. Completes DNR marine and snowmobile grants and associated paperwork.
6. Patrol waterways and snowmobile trails.
7. Responsible for records, statistics and any other related marine and snowmobile patrol paperwork.
8. Issues appearance tickets on violations as necessary.
9. Informs the public about animal control laws and ordinances and related issues.
10. May in the future, provide same or similar services for ORV patrol.
11. Cover needed corrections duties including court security as needed between seasons.
12. Performs other duties as directed.

Education and Experience:
· High school diploma
· Completion of Corrections Academy or MCOLES certification
· Michigan Vehicle Operator’s License.
· Good knowledge of the professional public management techniques involved in budgeting, personnel administration and resource management, and the ability to identify and implement new best practices.
· Skill in assembling and analyzing data, preparing comprehensive and accurate reports, and formulating policy and service recommendations.
· Skill in effectively communicating ideas and concepts orally and in writing, and making presentations in public forums.
· Ability to establish effective working relationships and use good judgment, initiative and resourcefulness when dealing with county employees, representatives of other governmental units, professional contacts, elected officials, and the public.
· Skill in the use of office equipment and technology, including Microsoft Suite applications, database use and the ability to learn new software programs applicable to the position.
· Ability to attend meetings scheduled at times other than normal business hours.
· Ability to respond to emergencies or service needs on a 24-hour basis.
Other Requirements
Must be able to complete and/or pass all Antrim County pre-employment requirements, including but not limited to: employment application, oral interview, reference check, background check, drug screening, and employment physical.
Tools and Equipment Used
Must have the ability to pull and back a trailer. Knowledge of and ability to operate various boats and snowmobiles. Working knowledge of computers, copy machine, phone, cell phone, pager, and radios.

While performing the duties of a Recreational Deputy, the employee is frequently required to talk or hear, use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools or controls and reach with hands and arms. The employee is required to sit, stand, walk, run and move freely at any time. The employee must frequently lift and/or move objects of up to 50 pounds without assistance and restrain and/or control aggressive animals. The noise level in the work environment may be quiet to very loud. Position works in an outdoor environment quite often with exposure to weather-related heat and cold, rain, wind, and related elements. May be exposed to fumes or airborne particles, infectious diseases, criminal suspects, or prison inmates.
