Job Title : Associate Technician, Metrology Reports To : Supervisor, Metrology Lab Position Location : Vernon Hills, IL FLSA Status (Exempt / Non-Exempt) : Non-Exempt Position Summary : Under the direction and supervision of a qualified Metrology Technician and the Metrology Lab leader, performs measurements on calibration instruments that measure characteristics of objects, substances, or phenomena, such as pressure, temperature, time, rotational motion, flow, electric current, voltage, resistance, and derived units of physical or chemical measures. Aids Metrology Technicians with measurements and setup of calibration procedures. Identifies magnitude of error sources contributing to uncertainty of results to determine reliability of measurement process in quantitative terms. Prepares calibration reports containing methods, measured data, measurement uncertainties, and NIST traceabilities. Key Responsibilities : Performs calibrations on Antylia's and customer's measuring instruments under the direction of qualified Metrology Technicians. Uses assigned calibration standards and procedures. Documents all aspects of calibration events in Mudcats database. Evaluates the contract and workorder to ensure all work can be properly completed. Assists customers in traceability or procedural questions in calibrations; resolves technical contract issues. Develops and maintains preventative maintenance and laboratory safety / housekeeping programs and works with team to ensure compliance. Quantifies sources of measurement error and determines measurement uncertainty. Aids in setup of processes and paperwork related to calibration. Completes administrative tasks related to incoming calibrations as necessary. Performs other duties as assigned. Minimum Requirements / Qualifications : High school diploma or GED from an accredited higher learning institution required. Must possess strong aptitude to absorb technical concepts and theory and apply to measurement situations Must exhibit above-average mechanical skills. Must have strong desire to service customers fully with unwavering commitment to high quality to meet requirements of ISO 17025, ANSI / Z540-1. Must have analytical skills to identify sources of measurement error, read and interpret technical specifications and calibration procedures, and take and follow instruction from tenured metrologist and complete tasks as directed.Must have great interpersonal skills to respond to metrology questions in a clear concise manner. Must be able to work independently and function as part of a team. Thrives in a fast-paced, collaborative environment, efficiently works under pressures, within deadlines or other time essential constraints. Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, to clearly and concisely communicate to all levels of the organization. Strong work ethic and an ability to excel within a rapidly changing and growing organization. Ability to stand about 50-75% of the time and lift up to 50 lbs. with assistance.
