CNC Machine Operators (1st & 2nd Shifts)

Description

 Operate one or more computer numeric or numeric control machines to perform drilling, reaming, tapping, milling, boring, and other machine operations over various surfaces, diameters, and depths. Positioning in all axes and changing preset tools are preprogrammed to follow the pre-established methods automatically. The setups on some jobs are complicated and require milling to close tolerances. The operator must determine the proper operation sequence and select and adjust tools in adapters and mounts in the storage matrix (drum).

Requirements

  ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • · Operates one or more machines per operation sheet.
  • · Identifies issues relative to tools and/or processes and documents them per ISO 9002 procedures
  • · Identify/segregate any non-conforming hardware utilizing the non-conformance reporting system.
  • · Perform necessary tool changes as prescribed in the process.
  • · Gauge parts to blueprint/op sheet specifications and frequency using CMM and/or hard gauging.
  • · Make necessary machine offsets as required.
  • · Perform setups based on process sheets and setup documentation.
  • · Perform 1st piece production prove-out.
  • · Troubleshoot and resolve production/machining issues.
  • · Download part programs into machine controls.
  • · Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE, EDUCATION

  • Ability to read blueprints, process documentation, and inspect measuring devices.
  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent work experience
  • Ability to demonstrate the ability to operate CNC Mills/Lathes, and various hand tools as required in a machine shop environment.
  • Ability to identify/correct production machining issues

LANGUAGE SKILLSAbility to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively communicate information with managers and other employees, both orally and in writing.


MATHEMATICAL SKILLSAbility to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.  Ability to apply concepts of introductory algebra.


REASONING ABILITYAbility to apply common sense understanding and carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

The employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts, humid conditions, fumes or airborne particles, flying metal burrs and chips, and possible chemical irritants such as water-based coolants, hydraulic oils, de-greasing soap, and mineral spirits. The employee is occasionally exposed to uncomfortable colds or heat. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
