Description
The Lab Technician in Coating Operations plays a critical role in the monitoring and adjusting Phosphate, Anodize, and Chrome plating processes. This position ensures that these plating processes are conducted accurately and efficiently, supporting the production schedule.
Requirements
• Starts up plating lines when needed.
• Perform pre-production analysis (process validation) each day when required.
• Makes necessary chemical adjustments based on analysis results.
• Ability to perform titrations IAW by customer specifications.
• Maintains chemical inventory (lab, process).
• Properly receives and stores chemicals on satellite containers.
• Paperwork – Bath maintenance log and labeling.
• Assist and independently clean tanks, filter presses, and sumps.
• Performs calibration of lab equipment and waste treatment pH probes
• Performs chemical maintenance as scheduled (Makeup and reagents)
• Chemical makeup of reagent and process tanks as instructed by the Coating Supervisor
• Performs required tests (Thickness, Coating Weight, Salt Spray, Oil Panels, etc.)
• With Supervisor involvement, monitor and expedite Work in Process (WIP) and complete orders
• Assist in maintaining a safe work environment, disperse supplies, and complete proper accident reports as required.
• Overtime and weekends required as needed.
• The Coating Supervisor may assign other duties as required.
JOB REQUIREMENTS: Minimum experience in the following areas:
· Must have excellent people skills, strong analytical and critical thinking skills,
· Task-oriented, attention to detail, ability to learn new skills.
· Experience in Regulated Industries
· Chemical handling training, titration experience, lab, and chemical testing experience.
· Ability to obtain Wastewater Treatment certification.
· Ability to obtain Haz Waste Cert."
· Must have Chemical experience.
· 2 years of experience in a laboratory or testing setting.
· High School Diploma or equivalent required
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively communicate information with managers and other employees, both orally and in writing.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as rate, ratio, interest, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs. Ability to apply concepts of introductory algebra.
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to apply common sense understanding carrying out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to the risk of electrical shock. The employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts, humid conditions, fumes, airborne particles, flying metal burrs and chips, and possible chemical irritants such as water-based coolants, hydraulic oils, de-greasing soap, and mineral spirits. The employee is occasionally exposed to uncomfortable colds or heat. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
