What are the responsibilities and job description for the Coordinator of High School and Youth Ministry position at AOB?
St. Michael the Archangel Parish, located in Overlea, Maryland, seeks a Coordinator of High School and Youth Ministry. The part-time position (15 hours per week) Coordinator of Youth Ministry will provide continuing faith formation and confirmation preparation as well as social, service, and learning opportunities for middle school and high school-aged students. The Coordinator of Youth Ministry will work collaboratively with the pastor and parish staff in implementing goals and developing the parish's vision for youth ministry, with a primary focus on youth involvement in the parish community.
Essential Functions
- Develop and implement age-appropriate lessons, events, and programs in line with catholic, social, spiritual and service themes
- Recruit, train and coach adult volunteers and youth leaders on the ministry team
- Implement an annual fundraising opportunity to support the program
- Provide opportunities for the youth to be involved in outreach and parish ministries
- Assist the pastor in preparing liturgical celebrations focused on the youth
- Provide opportunities for parents and families to gather and participate in our parish
- Promote events/ministries through newsletters, social media, emails, website, and parish bulletin
High School Youth Ministry
- Plan and provide high school students with a minimal of 3-4 events per month
- Monthly events include general gathering, social activity, service opportunity, prayer experience, topic nights, drop-ins and retreats
Middle School Youth Ministry
- Plan and provide middle school aged students a minimal of one gathering per month
Confirmation
- Coordinate with the Director of Religious Education to plan and assist with the confirmation program, including sessions, retreats, service opportunities and liturgies
- Coordinate and organize catechists to assist with the confirmation program
- Communicate with parents, catechists, sponsors and candidates on a regular basis
- Organize and lead parent preparation sessions to inform parents about the process for the preparation of the sacrament of Confirmation
Position Qualifications
- Practicing and devoted Catholic who is fully able to participate in the sacramental life of the Church
- Bachelor's Degree, preferably in Theology, Religious Studies, Pastoral Ministry, or related field
- Excellent planning and organizational skills, ability to prioritize work
- Excellent interpersonal communication skills
- Ability to direct, form, and manage volunteer staff
