Summary:
Aoka Engineering is a municipal service and software provider that works to assist local jurisdictions. We are seeking a dynamic and results-driven Director of Business Development to play a pivotal role in driving our company's growth and expanding our client base. The ideal candidate will be in the Dallas-Fort Worth area, responsible for identifying new business opportunities, establishing and maintaining relationships with prospects, and working closely with the marketing team to achieve sales targets.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Business, Engineering, Construction Management, Public Administration, or a related field. A Master’s degree is a plus but not required.
- A minimum of 10 years of experience in business development leadership, specifically targeting government contracts within the construction, engineering, architectural, or infrastructure sectors.
- Strong knowledge of the local government procurement process, including RFPs, RFQs, and government bidding practices.
- Proven track record of managing a team that has won government contracts by managing marketing and proposal writing team.
- Excellent negotiation, communication, and presentation skills.
Responsibilities:
- Business Development Strategy: Develop and execute a strategic plan to identify, target, and win contracts with local government agencies (municipalities, counties, etc.) for plan review and inspection services in the construction sector. Build and manage a team that allows you to do so.
- Relationship Building: Establish and cultivate strong relationships with key decision-makers in local government, including planning and development departments, public works, and construction-related officials.
- Lead Generation and Pipeline Management: Proactively identify and qualify new business opportunities, track leads, and manage a robust pipeline of potential contracts and partnerships.
- Proposal Management: Lead the preparation and submission of proposals, ensuring they meet local government requirements and align with our company’s capabilities and services.
- Negotiation and Closing: Manage contract negotiations with local government entities, ensuring favorable terms and alignment with company goals. Close business deals effectively while maintaining high standards of compliance and ethics.
- Market Intelligence: Stay informed about trends, regulations, and changes in the construction and government sectors that may affect business opportunities. Utilize this knowledge to position the company as a market leader.
- Collaboration: Work closely with the internal project management, finance, software, client success, and operations teams to ensure smooth transitions from contract signing to project execution, and to identify opportunities for upselling or expanding service offerings. Manage business development team and provide direction to achieving goals every quarter.
- Reporting: Provide regular reports on business development activities, forecasts, and performance against goals. Analyze results and recommend adjustments to strategies as needed. Track monthly KPIs and present it to the leadership team to celebrate successes and collaborate challenges.
Preferred Skills:
- Experience with public-sector contract compliance and regulations.
- Familiarity with plan review and inspection processes in the construction industry.
- Knowledge of local zoning laws, building codes, and permitting processes.
