JOB SUMMARY:
The AOPA Air Safety Institute (ASI) is dedicated to advancing general aviation (GA) safety through cutting-edge research, comprehensive analysis, and dynamic educational outreach. As a video producer, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the quality and impact of ASI’s content across multiple platforms with a strong focus on video production. Your creative expertise will be crucial in engaging our audience, fostering AOPA membership growth, and reinforcing ASI’s mission. This role requires a high degree of creativity, ability to manage the video production process, and ensure the highest standards are met consistently.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Create compelling aviation safety video content that resonates with AOPA members, the aviation community, industry leaders, and policymakers, broadening ASI's reach and impact.
Develop and refine narration/voiceover scripts that are informative and engaging, ensuring the tone, style, and message align with each video's purpose.
Uphold the highest production standards, incorporating best practices in scriptwriting, cinematography, lighting, animations, and editing, while skillfully using b-roll footage and audio elements.
Conduct meticulous pre-production planning, managing all aspects of staging, set preparation, and logistics to ensure seamless production.
Travel as necessary for offsite filming.
Actively seek opportunities to expand video production expertise and knowledge of general aviation safety

REQUIRED JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
3-5 years of experience producing video content with demonstrated skills in cinematography, composition, lighting, audio, filming, graphics, illustrations, animations, color-grading and editing.
Proficiency in Adobe Premiere Pro, After Effects, Illustrator, and Photoshop; experience with 3D animations and photography is a plus.
Strong scriptwriting and editorial skills, with the ability to adapt to different video formats and audiences.
Ability to juggle multiple projects in a fast-paced environment, consistently meeting tight deadlines.
Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal, with a knack for working collaboratively in a team setting.
A self-starter with a strong sense of initiative, urgency, and a commitment to exceeding expectations.
PREFERRED JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
Degree in journalism, filmmaking, related field, or equivalent professional experience.
Private Pilot certificate: Certificated Flight Instructor (CFI) experience is highly desirable.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
This position works in an office setting with occasional work performed outside the office when filming outdoors or at other venues.
Typical working hours are 8:30 am – 5 pm, Monday through Friday, with a one-hour lunch break.
Generally, a climate-controlled environment with occasional exposure to outdoor weather conditions when attending aviation-related events, including exposure to higher altitudes and confined spaces if in a general aviation aircraft.
This position requires some travel, possibly up to 15% of the time, to various general aviation or industry-related events. Travel is by aircraft (general aviation and commercial) and by road or public transit.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
The physical demands of this position are occasionally more than a typical standard office environment. While performing the duties of this job, the employee will regularly be required to:
Sit for extended periods while working at a computer or attending meetings.
Stand, walk, and move around during pre-production and filming.
Use hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard, mouse, and other equipment including video cameras, lighting, and props.
Communicate effectively via email, phone, and in-person, which requires clear speech, hearing, and vision.
Occasionally lift or move items weighing up to 25 pounds, such as video equipment.
Occasionally stand, walk, and reach with hands and arms during the course of normal office and video production activities.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
This position is located at AOPA’s Frederick, MD headquarters.
The salary range for this position is: $57,000 - $64,000, depending on education and experience.
