AP Professionals has partnered with a local nonprofit health organization seeking an experienced Senior Financial Accountant. Reporting to the CFO, this role will support financial management strategy by assisting with strategic projects and leading process improvement initiatives to enhance financial operations. This is a temporary 6-month assignment with the potential to become permanent.
Responsibilities
- Review and update Finance and Payroll policies and procedures.
- Assess accounting transactions to ensure proper recording, internal controls, and compliance.
- Monitor departmental accounts by line of business.
- Evaluate and optimize the effectiveness of accounting and payroll software systems.
- Oversee Accounts Receivable management, including credit losses, contractual allowances, and reporting.
- Manage revenue recognition and ensure accurate posting of patient service revenue from the electronic medical record system.
- Develop and implement an annual budget process.
- Prepare cost reports and evaluate reimbursement rates.
- Review and negotiate payer contracts.
- Support program staff in compiling financial data for budget submissions.
- Conduct cash flow analysis and forecasting.
- Maintain open communication with the CFO regarding critical financial matters.
- Assist in preparing external reports for funding sources and regulatory agencies.
- Perform other finance and payroll-related duties as needed.
Education
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Finance, Accounting, or related field.
Experience
- 1-3 years of experience in a similar role, including management experience.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Other Characteristics
- Exceptional attention to detail with strong organizational skills.
- Proficiency in MS Office, particularly Excel.
- Solid understanding of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and non-profit/grants accounting.
- Strong verbal and written communication abilities.
- Ability to interpret and apply relevant laws, regulations, guidelines, and policies.
- Effective time management skills with a track record of meeting deadlines.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
