Duties:
The Principal Architect will:
- Lead the architectural design and technical direction for a major CMS IT system, ensuring compliance with CMS enterprise architecture standards and cloud infrastructure best practices.
- Define and implement technical strategies for system modernization, automation, and cloud optimization in AWS GovCloud.
- Oversee the development and deployment of API-driven integrations, microservices architectures, and scalable cloud-based solutions.
- Ensure compliance with CMS security, privacy, and accessibility requirements, including 508 compliance, FISMA, and HIPAA.
- Guide teams in the adoption of Agile methodologies, DevSecOps, and CI/CD pipelines to improve system reliability and deployment efficiency.
- Collaborate with CMS business and IT stakeholders, external contractors, and federal oversight bodies to ensure seamless integration and interoperability with other CMS platforms.
- Provide architectural oversight for system performance monitoring, troubleshooting, and optimization efforts.
- Act as the technical authority during CMS meetings, responding to inquiries and advising on system design choices.
- Provide strategic input for long-term system planning and roadmap development, ensuring continued scalability and efficiency.
- Support the program manager and CMS leadership in presenting modernization strategies and architectural decisions.
Education:
- Master s degree in computer science, Systems Engineering, or related field.
Required Skills:
- 10-15 years of experience in enterprise-level system architecture, including large-scale IT modernization efforts.
- Deep expertise in cloud computing (AWS preferred), enterprise architecture, and software development lifecycle (SDLC) best practices.
- Extensive experience designing API-driven systems and cloud-native architectures.
- Proven experience in leading $50M DME programs, delivering IT modernization initiatives that reduced operational costs.
- Strong background in data modeling, system integrations, and security best practices for federal health systems or other regulated environments.
Preferred Experience and Skills:
- Experience working within CMS, CCIIO, or other HHS agencies on IT projects.
- Knowledge of CMS Target Life Cycle (TLC) methodology, federal IT security requirements, and cloud migration best practices.
- Certifications in AWS Certified Solutions Architect, TOGAF, or other enterprise architecture frameworks.
