Position Summary:
The Metal Man's job involves measuring, cutting and fitting a variety of insulation materials to pipe work, valves, pressure vessels, tanks, ducting, flues, or on any hot or cold surfaces for the purpose of thermal insulation, fireproofing or soundproofing. It also involves the cladding of the insulation material with suitable coverings such as sheet metal, aluminum, stainless steel or other specified coverings and finishes such as felt, cement, various rubbers, canvas and foils.
Essential Functions/Responsibilities
- Ability to install insulation and metal on pipe and equipment.
- Ability to measure, manufacture and install removable blankets.
- Capable of performing metal layout for ell, T’s, Gores, etc.
- Own and use of all required tools.
- Metal cladding involves pattern layout and development of sheet metal (mild steel, galvanized mild steel, stainless steel, aluminum and other alloys) up to .05 inches and the use of various machines. These patterns would include pipe work, vessels, domed ends, valve and flange boxes, tee pieces, reducers, transformers etc. The patterns are then fabricated by hand and with the aid of machines. They are then joined and assembled using self-securing joints, riveting, fasteners, flanging, swaging and banding suited to the appropriate finishing techniques. Non-metallic finishing may be joined by adhesives, banding or strapping as appropriate.
- Modern cutting and cladding involve the use of specialized machinery.
- Planning, costing/estimating, reading drawings, tracking, quality control and environmental considerations (energy conservation) are areas in which the top-level Industrial Insulator will operate as foreman and / or supervisor.
Qualifications/Requirements
- Capable to read a tape measure, handle insulation and lagging, own and use hand tools.
- Ability to install insulation including cutting T’s, Ells, Miters, etc. Light metal work, Own and use hand tools and machinery.
- Required tools: 12’ minimum tape measure, end nippers, right, left and straight cutting shears, hand saws (suitable for cutting all types of insulation), hole saw, tool pouch, insulation cutting knife, caulk gun, screw gun, dividers, scratch awl, markers, straight edge.
- Ability to install insulation and metal on pipe and equipment.
- Ability to measure, manufacture and install removable blankets.
- Capable of performing metal layout for ell, T’s, Gores, etc. Own and use of all required tools.
- Ability to read drawings and track work progress and reporting, capable of maintain daily time for crew. Safety training, JSA review and presentation, monitor quality of work performed.
- Ability to communicate with clients.
- Ability to read and understand Isometric Drawings, P&ID’s, Ortho-graphic drawings. Skilled in Excel spread sheets. Understanding of Insulation types, layers, etc. Math skills. Ability to communicate with client and co-workers.

Position Title: Leadman
Position Summary: A Leadman is responsible for directing personnel in the safe execution of the site-specific scope of work items outlined in the contract documents. A Leadman is also responsible for all associated paperwork and documentation as described in the Apache manuals and programs that apply.
Essential Functions/Responsibilities
- Heavy lifting will often be required to perform tasks.
- Must be able to kneel, squat, and climb.
- Must be able to perform required duties for extended periods of time
- Must be able to tolerate extreme weather conditions for extended periods of time.
- Follow directions of Foreman to understand the scope of work and bring to attention any potential problems and issues.
- Responsible for directing the field-crew in the performance of daily tasks.
- Read prints, specifications, and both written and verbal instructions as required to perform duties and responsibilities as listed.
- Initiate and manage the daily tailgate safety meeting and JHA.
- Ensure that all employees are working in a safe manner and environment. Craftsmen are to fulfill all requirements outlined in the Apache Safety Manual, site specific requirements, and customer specific requirements.
- Ensure that all Apache and customer specifications, guidelines, and programs are being followed and documented as required.
- Must maintain a positive attitude with crew members.
Qualifications/Requirements
- Minimum 2 years of experience in craft, preferably with Apache
- Able to give clear and concise instructions to multiple employees in the execution of work.
