Overview:
Delivery of nursing care. Applies current nursing principles and techniques in the care and treatment of patients. Takes vital signs and administers medication as prescribed. Assists physicians in patient management and treatment. Provides nursing assessment, monitoring, education, and treatment services and activities. Provides crisis intervention. Prepares and maintains patient records. Completes nursing assessments under the supervision of an RN.
ESSENTIAL/CORE JOB-SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Completes pre-admission nursing assessments at the request of E&A. Completes admission Nursing Assessments in accordance with Client Record Handbook and unit procedure specifications. Obtains RN review and sign-off on Nursing Assessments as required. Incorporates findings in client service and nursing care plans as directed.
- Receives, documents and implements/carries out Admission, Standing/Routine and ad hoc physician orders in accordance with unit procedures. Conducts “read back” process for each verbal order (EPH and PCC permitted) in accordance with Agency policy/unit procedures. Provides and documents direct nursing care as needed in accordance with unit procedures and approved Treatment Plans/physician's orders. Documents according to JCAHO standards.
- Performs ongoing nursing supervision, assessment and monitoring of patients. Follows-up on client medical complaints. Ensures Family Practice Physician/ARNP is notified of clients needing admission physicals, consults, or other services. Notifies physician of changes in client's condition. Documents shift and ad hoc nursing care progress notes in accordance with unit procedures.
- Administers medication and documents administration in accordance with unit procedures. Organizes medication room. Verifies proper identification of patient using two identifiers (photograph and name) for each medication administration and clinical test procedure in accordance with Agency policy/Unit procedure. Maintains unit compliance with applicable medication management, storage and narcotic control policies and procedures. Audits on a regular basis to verify compliance with unit procedures. Oversees the proper and accurate completion/update of patient MARs in accordance with unit procedures. Serves as Medication Captain of monthly medication room inspections and inpatient monthly drug inspection forms are completed each month. Orders medications from Pharmacy in advance to prevent deficiency.
Shift: 11:30pm-8:00am, Monday-Friday.
Qualifications
Education/Experience:
- Official transcripts from approved vocational or technical school.
- Minimum of one (1) year of LPN experience preferred.
- Previous psychiatric and/or substance abuse experience preferred.
Licensure or Certification:
- Licensure as a practical nurse in accordance with Florida Statute 464.
- Must obtain and maintain current CPR, First Aid, and CPI certifications.
Salary : $26 - $28
