Job Summary
The PLC Engineer is responsible for the design, programming, and troubleshooting of control systems for industrial equipment and automation projects, for facility electrical systems, and for ensuring electrical system compliance. The Electrical Engineer or PLC technician also leads electrical trades personnel in the troubleshooting and resolution of electrical issues with extrusion manufacturing equipment.

Competencies/Skills
- Applies engineering principles and tools to find and solve the root cause of equipment and technological problems.
- Knowledge of electrical safety codes.
- Experience with PLCs, HMIs, servo systems.
- Experience creating electrical schematics.
- Effective communication skills – able to lead others and provide support
- Provide day-to-day technical advice, problem solving, and support to operations and maintenance, resulting in timely equipment functionality.
- Design and implement long-term equipment reliability improvement strategies and engineering solutions to reduce and eliminate repetitive equipment failures and reduce turnaround times.
- Create electrical schematics, panel layouts, and bills of materials for machine control systems.
- Design, program, and troubleshoot PLCs, HMIs, servo systems, and low voltage power distribution systems.
- Lead and facilitate risk assessment and value analysis to make accurate engineering decisions for equipment repairs, redesigns, and replacements.
- Review and participate in existing equipment modifications or new equipment installations to ensure proper engineering standards and compliance.
- Manage contractor activities in equipment repair, modification, or replacement.
- Create, maintain, and update equipment files, programs, and drawings.
- Identify, convey, and implement technical ideas, concepts, and cost reduction opportunities that support plant objectives and goals.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering; or a journeyman license with a General Supervising Electrician Certification.
- Minimum of 5 years experience in a manufacturing/plant environment.
- Ability to read, write, and understand English.
- Preferred – professional registration or demonstrable progress towards professional registration.
