The CNC Operator II, III/LEAD is responsible for overseeing operations in compliance with inch and metric drawing specifications. This role involves providing technical guidance, optimizing processes, and ensuring a safe and efficient work environment. (Shift 2: 2:15pm-12:45am, Pay $26-$39/hr depending on experience!)
Essential Responsibilities:
- Support setup and operation of CNC Vertical Mill to inch and metric drawing specifications, when needed.
- Act as technical resource regarding tooling and machining capabilities.
- Evaluate and justify new tooling and machining processes.
- Communicate issues relating to work orders, programming errors, material shortages or errors. Use communication tools such as MMR, PCR, and NCR.
- Continuous focus on reduction of material, labor and scrap.
- Learn, comprehend and apply manufacturing safety practices.
- Responsible for managing products and processes.
- Provide technical advice and direction to employees in area.
- Scheduling individual areas.
- Liaison with manufacturing manager on personnel issues.
- Perform minor maintenance activities as required by the preventative maintenance program.
- Continue education and training including but not limited to: ISO 9001, safety, blueprint reading, teamwork, Statistical Process Control.
- Maintain cleanliness of work area following 6S methodologies.
- Accurately record labor time for job tracking.
- Present a professional image in accordance with company appearance standards.
- Demonstrate good judgement and decision-making skills.
- Demonstrate and promote safety in accordance with company policy.
- Mentor and train Machinists I, II and III.
- Able to take lead on large projects from beginning to completion.
- Interact with engineers on design of parts.
- Advise on corrective actions that need to be taken.
- Document red lines.
- Perform R&D work as directed.
- Other duties as assigned.
Required Skills:
- High School degree or equivalent with 2-3 yrs experience or AA degree in Machine Technology.
- Demonstrated ability to perform lead responsibilities in an effective, productive, professional and positive manner.
- Demonstrated ability to machine various plastics including WPP, NPP, FRPP, Polycarbonate, PVC, Acrylic, UHMW, Delrin, PTFE, PFA, and PVDF and other materials as they come up including metals.
- Demonstrated ability to machine to .005 tolerances.
- Demonstrated ability to perform tooling designs.
- Demonstrated ability to use inspection tooling to measure and verify dimensions.
- Must be able to read and interpret engineered drawings in metric, decimal and fractional inch units.
- Ability to read and interpret Bill of Materials.
- Able to maintain and inspect tooling.
- Demonstrated ability to setup manual machine using appropriate tooling and fixtures.
- Demonstrated ability to operate manual mill and lathe.
- Demonstrated ability with troubleshooting skills.
- Demonstrated ability to setup CNC machine loading programs, tools, fixtures and setting tool offsets.
- Demonstrated ability to use and read precision measuring devices in thousandths.
- Demonstrated ability to identify various cutting tools and materials utilized.
- Able to perform more complex variety of machining skills.
- Demonstrated skills in a minimum of one other discipline (cross-trained).
- Ability to CNC program.
- Ability to work in a team environment and be a contributing member.
- Good hand eye coordination and attention to detail. Ability to carefully handle fragile products, performs repetitive tasks, and demonstrates safety awareness.
- Able to maintain and inspect functional tooling.
- Must be able to read and understand machine codes.
- Demonstrated ability to deburr parts.
- Must be able to lift and carry products weighing up to 35 pounds from staging area to CN Mill.
Work Environment:
- Some noise and plastic chips when machines in use.
- Requires safety glasses and hearing protection.
- Follow safety guidelines when performing functions of position.
- Requires compliance with company safety procedures.
