What are the responsibilities and job description for the Certified Pharmacy Technician position at Apex Infusion?
POSITION SUMMARY:
Under a pharmacist's supervision, performs designated technical and clerical tasks associated with the preparation, labeling, and dispensing of medications, including sterile admixtures and prepackaged or unit dose drugs. In addition, performs designated tasks regarding pharmacy quality control, management of pharmacy records, inventory control and preparation of orders for drugs.
QUALIFICATIONS:
1. High School diploma.
2. Possess a California pharmacy technician license that is in good standing.
3. Successful completing of an approved/accredited pharmacy technician training program desirable.
4. Minimum of one year's experience in the aseptic preparation of large/small ·. · volume parenteral, parenteral nutrition, antibiotics and chemotherapy.
5. Knowledge of basic drug terminology, pharmaceutical calculations, drug use and aseptic technique.
6. Ability to work with others.
7. Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
8. Possess good organizational and time-management skills.
9. Proficient in data entry and use of a computer.
10. Possess the ability and initiative to plan for and complete daily activities with minimal direction.
11. Dependable in attendance and job performance.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Assists pharmacists in coordinating/scheduling preparation of sterile admixtures.
2. Prepares and generates batch for preparation of sterile admixtures.
3. Organizes assigned work load to facilitate its accomplishment.
4. Prepares/compounds sterile admixtures, including but not limited to parenteral nutrition, antibiotics, chemotherapy, hydration, narcotic analgesics, using aseptic techniques and under the direct supervision of a pharmacist.
5. Completes batch records and other pharmacy records as indicated.
6. Verifies completed batch records against the computer record.
7. Prepares labels for sterile admixture and places with the respective batch record.
8. Generates labels and picks and packages prepackaged and unit dose drugs in accordance with the dispensing order (pick-list) and under the supervision of a pharmacist.
9. Performs and records various quality control activities including air sampling, bacterial counts, and Steri-Testing. Reports all "positive'! results to the pharmacy·: supervisor immediately.
10. Ensures the clean room suites and related equipment are cleaned and maintained per organizational policy and procedure.
11. Participates with the pharmacist and materials management coordinator in monitoring/maintaining drug inventories and preparing orders for drugs and related supplies.
12. Answers the telephone and takes messages as indicated.
13. Participates in department QA activities as requested.
14. Attends designated departmental meetings as scheduled.
15. Performs other tasks or duties as requested.
16. Prepares and submits dosage and stabilities reports for sterile products.
