Apex International Education Partners (APEX) is seeking a highly reliable and hardworking individual to join our team! We are looking for a detailed-oriented and proactive School Custodian with proven work experience in keeping facilities and office spaces clean, safe and orderly.
As a key member of our Facilities Staff, you will ensure the cleanliness of our office spaces and dormitory on a daily and continuous. The School Custodian is responsible for maintaining a clean and safe environment for our office staff and dormitory residents, as well as assisting in general facilities maintenance duties and responsibilities.
Essential Responsibilities
- Thoroughly clean and maintain all areas of the facility, including office spaces and dormitory areas.
- Vacuum, sweep, and spot mop floors. Clean hallway floors and buff regularly.
- Scrub and buff floors in dining room, when needed. Move out all furniture.
- Empty trash daily. Clean and reline trash bins.
- Clean glass doors and entry ways. Wipe down window sills.
- Wipe down counter tops, tables and chairs in office space and dormitory common areas including dining room, classroom, lounge areas, etc. Sanitize the surfaces. Dust hard surfaces, wall hangings and shelves. Clean tables after meals. Collect dirty dishes and bring to kitchen.
- Clean refrigerators and microwaves in office and dormitory regularly.
- Clean office restrooms and dormitory bathrooms and showers regularly.
- Clean common areas including student lounge areas, recreation areas, gym, daily. Wipe down equipment.
- Keep laundry room orderly, clean out dryer vents daily, and wash floors as needed.
- Clean and replenish supplies in office breakroom daily.
- Turn off lights, close and lock doors/windows, when appropriate.
- Keep adequate levels of inventory and cleaning/laundry supplies. Order when needed. Restock supplies like paper and soap.
- Check for mail each day and deliver to staff and students.
- Prepare dormitory rooms for new students - clean all bedding, furniture, bathrooms, make beds, and provide new toiletries/supplies ie towels, soap, shampoo, tooth brush/tooth.
- Move furniture for student/staff events and reorganize spaces, when needed.
- Assist with shoveling sidewalks and cleaning off vehicles when it snows.
- Escalate any maintenance or safety issues to supervisor or appropriate personnel. Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- 5 years of proven work experience cleaning facilities as a school custodian.
- Must be able to perform various types of physical labor including bending, kneeling, reaching and standing for long periods of time.
- Ability to lift 50lbs and move equipment, boxes and furniture.
- Ability to work independently and complete tasks thoroughly in a timely manner.
- Strong attention to detail and cleanliness. Valid CT driver's license and U.S. work authorization required.

Schedule:
- Weekly Schedule: Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday & Saturday
- Daily Shift, 6AM-2:30PM
Work Location:
- In-person/Onsite at 101 Marshall Lane, Derby, CT 06418. Preference given to those who reside within close proximity to the Derby, CT Office.
