What are the responsibilities and job description for the Medical Assistant position at APEX Shafter Urgent Care?
Bilingual - English/ Spanish REQUIRED
MUST HAVE EXPERIENCE (REQUIRED)
ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Checking patient’s vital signs: blood pressure, pulse, breathing rate and temperature.
- Taking physical exam: height and weight, as well as looking for deformities or irregularities on the patient’s body.
- Obtaining patient’s medical history (conditions, medications and allergies)
- Recording of any findings into the patient charts and alerting the provider of the results.
- Perform treatment such as administer medications and injections as ordered by the provider
- Responsible to collect any samples for laboratory testing and draw blood when needed
- Prepare patient for examination
- Provide patient education and family planning counseling
- Stocking exam rooms with supplies
- Cleaning medical instruments and equipment
- Complete any laboratory paperwork, any needed forms and route slips
- File/ scan any information needed for patient’s record
- Provide patients charge summary and schedule patient’s next visit when applicable
- Any other duties as required by provider
QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
- Graduated from a medical assistant program
- Must have a venipuncture certificate or equivalent
- At least two year experience as Medical Assistant
- Bilingual - English/ Spanish REQUIRED
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to fingers, handle, or feel objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms; balance; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; talk or hear. Ability to sit/stand/walk for 5-7 hours per day. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and 40 pounds (on wheels). Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS
Works closely with patients, providers and co-workers. The potential exists for handling hazardous and/or infectious material, therefore, good judgment is necessary at all times. Frequent exposure to communicable diseases, toxic substances, medicinal preparations and other conditions common to a health care environment. On-site workplace environment.
