Position: Transport Engineer
Location: Houston, TX (Hybrid)
30 Month Contract
Must-Have Skills:
- Bachelor's degree or four or more years of work experience.
- Six or more years of relevant work experience.
- Experience in analyzing and providing reports on traffic for transport backhaul.
- Self-motivated, shows initiative, and able to work independently.
- Experience in the cellular or telecommunications industry.
- Knowledge of related interconnect circuit types and features (e.g., SONET, Dark Fiber).
- Knowledge of 4G and 5G wireless services architecture.
- Ability to multi-task on multiple projects.
- Project management skills.
- In-depth knowledge and advanced proficiency in CWDM/DWDM Optical Transport systems (e.g., Ciena, Alcatel-Lucent).
- Familiarity with Dark Fiber vendors, their organizational processes, standards, and network portfolio maps.
- Knowledge of Pathloss 5 microwave design software.
- Proficiency in office computer applications: Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Microsoft Project.
- Executive-level troubleshooting, problem-solving, project management, and interpersonal skills.
- Decision-making skills, including the ability to use available information and data, anticipate future needs, and recognize the impact of decisions on the organization.
- Superior organizational and planning skills, including setting and communicating priorities, anticipating workload impact, delegating tasks, and following up on outstanding items.
- Ability to learn new technology quickly and apply wireless engineering knowledge to new projects.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- High productivity and attention to detail.
- Familiarity with engineering and engineering economic principles.
- Focus on backhaul conversions in the transport network and provide resolution for the Central Gulf Coast network (eastern TX, southern LA, AR, western TX, southern AL, MS, and western FL).
- Engage in planning, design, and execution of traffic needs related to LS6, 5G, CRAN, VRAN, MEC projects, and emerging technologies.
- Collaborate with various stakeholders (RF, Implementation, Ops, Construction, RE, Vendors, HQ) to optimize designs and reduce re-work.
- Build new paths in Granite/CND, order equipment, and coordinate with 3rd party vendors and Network Assurance.
- Ensure corporate policies and procedures are adhered to.
- Work closely with all groups within the Network team, including RF Design, Real Estate, Construction, Operations, Facilities, System Performance, and telco providers.
- Manage vendors to meet targeted network milestones and turn-up dates.
- Provide input for budget and overall planning.
- Work within the financial constraints of the allocated budget.
- Project management of new technologies/services related to cell site engineering and operations.
- Attend frequent project update meetings to present the current status of pending and ongoing projects.
- Adopt current methods/procedures for interconnect tracking.
- Consistently work to improve processes that assist in communication and coordination with other network teams.
- Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or equivalent work experience desired.
- 5-7 years of experience in the cellular/telecommunications industry in a Transport engineering role preferred.
- Shift: Standard 8-5 with two days required in the office.
