Job Description:
Apex Systems is looking for Lab Techs in the Branford, CT area!

Title: Lab Tech
Rate: $20/hr
Hours: Normal business hours
Duration: Starting at 6 months
Location: Branford, CT
Summary:
Must have a passion for operations and a background in microbiology and/or molecular biology to facilitate a smooth workflow in the laboratory.
Prior experience working with BSL-2 pathogens, with inventory management, and with data curation is preferred but not required.
Responsibilities:
Execute a variety of microbiological methods to generate customer data.
Perform hands on or machine-assisted sample preparation including dissections, filtration, and centrifugation.
Run manual or semi-automated diagnostic methods including but not limited to plates and PCR-based assays.
Maintain sample integrity and traceability to enable multiple diagnostic tests per sample, and banking or shipping externally for downstream analysis (sequencing, serotyping).
Troubleshoot and escalate challenges encountered in day-to-day operations.
Assist with verification and validation studies of new assays or instrumentation, supporting new product development and matrix extensions.
Thoroughly follow established SOPs and maintain a records for traceability.
Participate in process improvement initiatives to improve lab efficiency, quality, and customer value.
Qualifications:
BS in microbiology, molecular biology or related field
Two (2) years of laboratory experience, including as part of undergraduate research
Hands-on experience in microbiology and/or molecular biology.
Training and experience handling pathogenic bacteria in a biosafety Level 2 (BSL-2) environment (preferred.)
Demonstrated ability to quickly learn a variety of protocols. Self-motivated to learn new tools and technologies.
Strong critical thinking skills.
Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work well with personnel at all levels.
