Apex is seeking a skilled Network Engineer responsible for engineering and operational activities for campus and datacenter networks. This role involves collaboration with other engineers and the Infrastructure Architect for project and operational designs. The Network Engineer must be a self-starter, capable of prioritizing and managing their workload effectively, and able to analyze, troubleshoot, and resolve complex network issues.
Title: Network Engineer
Location: Richmond, VA
Schedule: M-F Hybrid 3 days a week on-site & 2 days remote
Pay: $50-65/hr
Type: 6 month contract (long-term potential)
Required Skills and Experience:
- Network Industry Certification preferred
- Experience with Arista or other commercial Wi-Fi platforms
- 10 years' experience with network technologies, including design and deployment of Campus and Data Center networks
- Knowledge of leaf-spine architectures
- Advanced knowledge in Ethernet, VLANs, VxLAN, VPN, IP Routing, TCP/IP, BGP, IPsec, MACsec, QoS, Wi-Fi, VoIP, and 802.1X
- Centralized network management automation mindset
- Excellent customer service, verbal, and written communication skills
- Experience in an ITIL or similar service operational environment
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Strong experience in routing & switching, Wi-Fi for datacenter and campus networks
- Provide operational and project support for Arista LAN and Wi-Fi infrastructure
- Review network designs for EVPN, VxLAN, leaf-spine architecture, and recommend improvements
- Develop and maintain network infrastructure monitoring and alerting strategy
- Support interoperability between Arista and other networking solutions (Cisco, Palo Alto)
- Assist with configuration buildouts using industry-standard automation tools
- Improve processes and documentation for network assets
- Troubleshoot incidents and coordinate with vendor support
- Build and maintain partnerships with external vendors, including Arista TAC
- Translate business requirements into leaf-spine network solutions
- Continue technology, security, and networking training
- Support business services by completing requests and resolving incidents within SLA timings
- Ensure security solutions, policies, and procedures meet network infrastructure threats
- Other duties as assigned
Desired Skills:
- Arista CloudVision experience
- Palo Alto firewall experience
- Citrix NetScaler or load balancing experience
- Zscaler Secure Private Access experience
- Nutanix Flow or virtual machine micro-segmentation experience preferred
- Microsoft Azure networking knowledge a plus
- Experience with a Network Access Control solution
Education and/or Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree preferred and 10 years’ experience with technology organizations required
- Knowledge of Commonwealth of VA Information Security Standard (SEC530) preferred
